This makes me laugh. I've seen this guy coach a good bit. He's pretty good, but nothing I'd call outstanding. It's funny how sneaking up on a couple of teams in the tournament turned him into a genius.

It makes sense but it's an unpredictable way to go about it. I'd rather hire a coach who has experienced sustained success for several years over a Stan Heath.

would USC hire him if he lost to georgetown in the first round? nope...his career is over in a few years but he is a business man a la DD...so wouldn't surprise me if he worded his contract to his liking

To be fair, he's also got a few years as an NBA Assistant that I'm sure is intriguing to some people; probably for good reason. But if the guy was really that great a head coach, would he have lost a bunch of games in the A-Sun the past 2 years?

same knock groce had. got hired by illinois after losing to teams such as eastern michigan and toledo. kind of similar cases minus the nba experience.

I don't think you realized how bad we were before he got here. There's a reason most of our 8 deep are underclassmen. He recruited well here and is a players coach. I don't think he'll be the next great coach, but he'll win some games out ther IMO

Like I said . . . I don't think he's bad. I just don't think he quite warrants a job like that yet.

Yep and we never would have hired him if he hadn't made that run in the NCAA tourney so it is exactly the same.

DS

Bruce Pearl had about 300 wins under his belt when he got to Knoxville. Enfield is around 40.

You're right that the tournament run had something to do with it, but it basically comes down to Pearl's wins vs' Enfield's 5 years on an NBA bench.
