Right around where I thought we would be.

I'm not worried about polls anymore. All the Vols need to do is win out.

Heck, I don't care about the polls that much either but c'mon Miami ahead of us? They've got beat by North Carolina and Clemson in consecutive weeks. They should have lost two more too. I guess it's irrelavent to argue whether we should be 17th instead of 18th but it's just another example of flawed polls. After the way Oklahoma should have got beat by A&M and USC just squeaking by Oregon State it's hard for me to believe that Auburn or Wisconson couldn't gain a few votes too. I read something toward the beginning of the season where Bob Davie quoted that when he was a coach he didn't even fill out the ballot half of the time and let the AD or SID do it.

I know it might not ever happen but I'd sure love to see a playoff sometime in the future. If it were a top 8 playoff it would be intense. We'll use the current BCS standings....

#1 USC vs #8 Georgia
#2 Oklahoma vs #7 Utah
#3 Auburn vs #6 Texas
#4 California vs #5 Wisconson

That could set up some very interesting games. You could be looking at a second round of USC in a rematch with Cal and Oklahoma vs Auburn. I think the only way we'll ever get a true National Champion is with at least a 4 team playoff, preferably 8. The ratings for these games would be through the roof and all would be very intriguing matchups.

I used to say no, but an 8 team playoff would be great. That's 7 games with the highest ratings you'd ever SEE! The first round could be a home game for the higher seeded team, and then the semifinal and final rounds could be 3 of the 4 current BCS bowls... now the question is to decide WHICH three... I'd say Fiesta, Orange, and Sugar. The Rose Bowl is always pulling that crap of getting a Pac-10, Big-11 matchup... they can go back to having it.

I say give it time. Just like the basketball tournament started small. It eventually grew from 16 teams to 20 teams.... then to 32.... then 64... and now the 65 we currently have.

The BCS was the first step... its essentially a one game playoff. All the talk before the season of holding another "championship" game after the bowls makes me think that soon there will be a 4-team playoff.

The 4 will grow to 8 and then the 8 eventually to 16. I don't think it will grow any bigger than 16.

I outlined a plan in a previous post a few weeks ago of how to implement a 16 team playoff with no impact on the remaining non-playoff bowl games.
