US Expansion

Renegotiating or reworking the administration of the Canal Zone wouldn't only have an impact on trade...it would also be a dandy "first moat" to cut down on the number of illegals reaching the southern border.

It's by no means worth an invasion of Panama, but it stands to benefit the US in its own hemisphere quite a bit more than throwing resources at other adventures further away from home.

Iceland is actually pretty small as well. The economy was so small when I was there, they would count the amount of CDs I had in the car when I went off base to make sure I wasn't flooding the local economy. They literally would count anything of value every time. šŸ˜‚

They've done a decent job of shifting from being reliant on the NATO base at Keflavik and other smaller outposts (accounting for over a third of the GDP while it was open) to a tourism based economy. It's a beautiful place once you get out of the Reykjanes peninsula area and they've used that to their advantage.
