Urban Meyer the Liar

I'm not defending Meyer or any coach for that matter that blatantly lies about other jobs, but it is a bit of a "catch 22." If he comes out and says, "Yes, I'm interested in the Florida/Utah job", then he loses recruits, fans will still hate him, and he puts his current job at risk. If he says "No comment", then everyone assumes that he is interested and looking at other jobs. If he lies, then he throws off the media somewhat, keeps recruits, and keeps his fans happy. It's a no-win situation. So, that's why most coaches in these situations (Meyer, Saban, etc.), choose the lying route. It's a business, and the coaches are going to make the best decision for them and that usually means notoriety and money. Don't get me wrong ... I don't like Meyer or Saban, but my reasons do not include them lying about other jobs.

but he used his wife and family. actually, his wife is a liar too, so they both use their family too get trust from fans, and that is a bunch of crap.

Great link... thanks!

I'm sure he told whatever UF recruits would listen to him that he plans on coaching at UF after Tebow leaves as well. The guy's halfway out the door already, and, frankly, I don't know why ND didn't pull the trigger this year. It's just money.

where is the coming from? everyone has been saying it. is it mere speculation?

It's just putting what's known together with some speculation. CUM has said his dream job is ND and CCW faces mounting pressure there. Many thought ND would let him go at the end of this season although his buyout is quite substantial.

Many assume ND will not make a BCS game this year and CCW will be replaced at the end of this season. CUM, facing the prospects of coaching a UF without Tebow in 2010, would actually be wise to take the ND job as it would be hard to fault that decision. SEC defenses will have his number soon and Monte will accelerate that process.

It sux for UF, but that's the reality of the situation.

When ND comes calling with a $6 mil offer when weis gets fired, which is probably next season, meyer will be out the door in a flash to South Bend.

There is absolutely no reason for a coach to lie. He could say, "I'm not gonna talk about anything but this football team right here that I am coaching," and let people think whatever they want.

I'm not saying it's the right or wrong thing to do. All I'm saying is that is why they do it. And, if they said what you just said in your quote there, then it's as bad as saying "Yeah I'm definitely interested in Florida ... in fact, screw Utah." If people thought different things when someone says something like that, then I would agree with you. But, everyone and their brother knows that if they say "no comment" or "I'm currently the coach at XYZ University", then they are interested in the job. It's just the nature of the business.

Apparently when you add fictitious items to Wiki they get a little mouthy towards you. I learned my lesson

Well said 82.....it just gives the media more to talk about either way and they are just as much to blame because they keep bringing it up.

I wonder if there are any Vegas odds right now on whether or not UM takes the Notre Dame job sometime in late 2009/early 2010.

I'd rather him stay though, so CLK can at least have a few shots at going head to head.
