I must learn to hold my tongue in threads like this....some other time.
1. With the LaMarcus Coker situation such as it is, I find it particularly difficult to comment on what any other head coach does in regards to their disciplinary actions.
2. I am all for second and third chances for everybody. As much as I despise people who joyfully ride around in tow trucks and take people's automobiles and hold them for ransom, I cannot fault anyone for losing their temper and judgement in the situation. This to me is a impulse control problem, but it should not be a felony.
3. We would all be happy with getting to the SECCG. Hell, I would throw a party and invite the nation. However, this whole argument revolving around hoping that athletes from other teams are suspended to give us a better shot does look a little desperate.
4. Our head coach handles discipline just as inconsistently. Ask Raymond Henderson. Not a knock on Phil. As I have had time to reflect on my past feelings with these issues, I have determined that handling them on a case by case basis (rather than hard and fast rules) is the fairest for the athletes involved. It is hard enough to keep a kid in school and going to class. The coaches cannot baby sit these players. Were I a head coach, this is the part of the job I would dread the most.
5. There is no need to wish ill on Urban Meyer. If he is a weasel, success will be short lived. That, I am coming to realize with age, is the nature of the universe. The wheels will eventually come off in such a situation. Wishing the wheels to come off seems like a short cut. I prefer to field a team that will beat the hell out of him like I expect LSU to do this weekend.
