Upset Auburn

Something tells me Kirby Smart despises Tennessee and will not let up.

If we eliminate turnovers and change some things on offense to make it easier for the players maybe we can stay in the game. Then the players get some confidence, which will lead to a good off week of practice. Then the off week leads to a rested team that upsets Auburn.

If TN was to beat Auburn it would be an upset of great magnitude for sure. There's really not much this team has shown that would even remotely point to beating a ranked team, especially a top 10 quality team.

From my viewing chair, I think even if we played Georgia within two scores, this team hasn't shown me anything that would point to them building on it to be able to beat Auburn.

I think it could lead to a more confident team if they by some miracle completed with UGA, but i dont see them beating auburn at all.

In spite of all the negatives, it is true that the offense works a lot better this year than last. Our yardage stats have been pretty good. It's just all the turnovers, penalties, and the awful O-line blocking that's killing us.

I'm a true Vols fan, so I'll keep watching the games this year even if we get slaughtered every single one, but admit I'm still very pessimistic about the odds of a big upset with the O-line issues. It's undermined everything else: a good QB, several good RBs, and numerous options at WR.

But definitely not impossible ... I'm more optimistic about it this year than last, as the offense is running well when we're not shooting ourselves in the foot.

How much easier can the offense get than hand it off every down like we already do?

Trying to be positive: Could a reasonably close loss (less than 14 points) at UGA Saturday lead to a potential upset coming out of the off week at Auburn?
prior to SAturday night's debacle, and now just not having a whole lot of hope for the next 4 games, the auburn game is one that i originally thought could be sneaky.

it's off a bye, they'll be playing 6 or 7 straight. they haven't looked great, the natives are a tad restless. they sure as heck will think they should win this game, so you might wonder about effort level...this isn't exactly 80's TN/Auburn we're talking about here.

i'll reserve a little slice of hope for that game. of the next 4, i think it probabl lends itself to the one being most likely to result in an upset.

but i'm not really sure how much i believe it could actually happen now. people may disagree and say USCe, and normally i would agree, but i hate where that game falls on the schedule.

This team cannot beat anybody left on the schedule except Charlotte because of the offensive line. Pure and simple.

I'm not being hyperbolic...I truly think we have an FCS-level offensive line this year. There are only a handful of FBS conferences (SunBelt, Conference USA, MAC) in which Tennessee would be considered a "good team" and have a chance to win the conference. We wouldn't be competitive in any P5 conference and honestly don't think we'd be competitive in the American (South Florida, UCF) or Mountain West (Boise St) either.

To not go 3-9 will be a miracle.

The second worst team in the SEC just more than doubled our score in our house.. Sorry but I dont see us upsetting anyone until we prove we can at least hold on to the ball and not have 6 turn overs. Besides that their Dline will destroy our Oline unless some guys all of the sudden figure out how to block. I dont see UGA being that close anyway.. Dang I sound like a negavol

we're the 2nd worst team in the SEC.
Arksansas is 1st.

Absolutely not being hyperbolic. I might be wrong, but claiming that we have an FCS-level offensive line isn't totally out of bounds. Our O-line was evenly matched against ETSU's for a quarter and a half. ETSU is a mediocre FCS program, so we probably have an upper echelon FCS O-line.

yeah, i feel pretty good about that. Arkansas lost to N. Texas.

they're #1 for sure.

and FL just beat us.

so they're at worst, 3rd worst.

we'll all get our shot at Vandy and see where those chips fall. but aside for aTm's loss to clemson, they have the 2nd most impressive loss of the year so far at Notre Dame. lol.

i don't know if it's wrong or not.

Have you seen Arkansas this year?

I don't think they could win 5 games in the Sunbelt Conference. We can at least beat lesser opponents. Arkansas is losing to North Texas and a very bad 1-4 Colorado State team.

Not that only being the 2nd worst SEC team is anything to be happy about, but Arkansas is liking a middling FCS squad this year.
