Upon Returning To Sunny South Florida...

A lot, but not all of it. As I've stated here before, there are a few former 'Canes I consider friends. That said, there is a certain influence those guys exert that isn't always positive. Butch Davis handled it by banning them from the sidelines during games. That helped immensely. I just don't think Coker is a strong enough personality to avoid being overrun by the outside influences. He's a good man and was a decent offensive coordinator. He has no business being the head coach at a program with the "U's" history of success.
He seems like a great guy but Miami is a high energy team and needs a high energy coach.

I think that is very astute analysis. Coker lacks the sizzle that 'Cane fans want out of their coach. He's just not a dynamic guy.

Some observations on the weekend that was:

1. It was fun to beat Alabama at their own game.
2. Mike Shula has no feel for the college game. It's not the NFL. You don't win games kicking 18 yard field goals.
3. Alabama is playing the wrong tailback.
4. It's nice to be somewhere that has actual seasons.
5. Air Force didn't help UT's cause by losing to one of the 10 worst teams in the country.
6. Yeah, Cal's a real juggernaut. Beating a mediocre team at home in overtime really shows what a powerhouse they are.
7. I was elated to see Oregon exposed as the sham they are. They're the Pacific Time Zone version of Virginia Tech. A garbage program that beats its chest about not getting enough respect, then goes out and shows why they don't deserve any. I love watching teams get what they karmatically deserve.
8. The offense Colorado put on the field Sturday night in Norman is as bad as I've ever seen. Dan Hawkins should be paying his salary for this season back to CU.
9. The Vols can forget receiving any help from Georgia Saturday. The Bulldogs would struggle to beat Florida Atlantic, let alone the Gators.
10. I had the opportunity to meet and converse with a couple of players last night at Nama. If they are indicative of the type of young men filling the roster, the university is well represented.
Great post Hat. Who beat AF???

Also dont you think that Clemson could be a major player in this BCS thing?

From Hat's original post:

1. It is fun to beat Bama at any game.

2. Had he gone for it, that would have been the play of the game, 3 feet to decide UT/Bama. After thinking about it through the timeout, Shula wasn't willing to lay it all on the line at that time. He should have been. Championship teams are able to get those 3 feet. Championship coaches are willing to let them.

3. Alabama is playing the wrong DB, too. Did anybody else notice how often we threw at #3 (Dukes, I think,) on our last TD drive? A great job of noticing weakness by our offense, IMO.

6. I didn't know "karmatically" was a word, but I like it.

9. Georgia has next level athletes all over the field, and I'm a little confused as to why they haven't been able to pull it together despite their QB mess. With ability like that, they CAN beat Florida, so don't rain on my parade just yet. Let the Dawgs do that Saturday.

10. The only current player I have met is James Wilhoit, and he is a well spoken, polite, confident, nice young man. Glad to hear we have a few more good guys on the team.

With regard to Johns - he got 26 or so on one carry that came when we sold out with an LB blitz around the end. It was a matter of the right play called against the wrong defense to stop it.

Darby never got a hole like 2 of the 3 that Johns got. JJ might be better and have done better but I wouldn't base it all on 3 carries.

I will say I think SDSU has sweet uni's.

UNC won't be the only program going full-bore now that it looks like FSU and Miami will be down and out.
