some thoughts on an interesting day in college hoops.
1. Today was easily the worst loss of the Bruce Pearl era. A blowout loss to a bad team with a mediocre coach. That is exactly the kind of game that lands you in the NIT.
2. Can someone explain to me why everyone considers Arizona a lock for the NCAA tournament? What have they done to merit such security?
3. Good to see Oregon beginning their inevitable choke job. There is no school that does the late season fade better.
4. UCLA is going to be really tough in the tournament. Ben Howland instills as good a defensive mindset as there is in the country.
5. Kentucky just can't decide if they want to be good or not. Play well, then look as if they've been eating tranquilizers.
6. Gonzaga now officially needs to win the WCC Tournament to make the NCAAs. Given that I long ago tired of their act, I couldn't be happier.
7. Butler is proving to be a fading star. They couldn't defend their home court today. Teams are praying they draw the Bulldogs in the first round.
8. Georgetown is rapidly finding their stride. The Hoyas are showing why many folks thought they would be really good.
9. The SEC West is a wreck. I'm not sure anyone from that side of the league deserves an NCAA bid.
10. If Alabama could have held a double digit lead at Florida Wednesday night, I wouldn't have had to write #9.

I must say you are very astute when it comes to your knowledge of the sport.

I agree with all of your points and the ones listed are the ones I feel strongly about.

The talk after the game today on here was that we are still going to get into the tournament with no problem. To do this, I would think we need to go 2-2 and I'm not sure we can. We still have road games left and they have shown me nothing that makes me think they can when against any SEC team on the road. So we would have to beat Alabama at home and have a must win against Florida, 1-1 in those 2 is very likely.

UCLA is very balanced and have everything you need to win 6 in a row in the tournament.

Kentucky has been so inconsistant in my eyes for most of the Tubby Smith era, I wonder how long the Wildcat faithful are going to put up with it...

For what it's worth, Alabama was on the road at Florida last Wednesday, not at home.

I agree with Hat's first point, and I made the drive. I couldn't believe how well SC shot from the field. Then again, our defense could have done more to slow that down. Also, I think I was the only one to not get a technical. The worst one was the one Crews got. We were on a 9-0 run to pull within two, and he draws a technical. Even after that, it was just 36-33. Then, it was 70-45. And, this was SC, not UF!!!

#1.Loss to ( 2-9) 12-12 overall team proves UT can't win on another SEC court.MY hope is they make the NCAA and can play on a neutral court.Looking at UT's remaining schedule, win(s) will not come easy IMO.I wonder if we have to play well enough in the SEC tourney to make the NCAA's, win at least 2.:twocents:

Take away Florida, and I'm not certain the SEC East is any better. Pray that we get LSU in the SEC tourney, anybody else and we go home on day one!!

'Yall think we should be just one big league, like the ladies do, in basketball? I do.

I like the 2 divisions in football.

While UCLA does have some talent, they lack the inside punch to handle the remainder of the elite teams over and over. They are going to need Aflallo to shoot very well for an extended stretch.

I think the reason UT lost is because of the kentucky game. Young guys sometimes don't handle success very well, and we looked over South Carolina. Hopefully this will help them prepare harder for Bama, Arkansas, and Florida.

Right on with the Georgetown pick. That team will be a scary good tourney team. They have good guard play and play good defense. Plus, Jeff Green(sp?) is one of the best all around players I have seen. Good win against and old rival on saturday.
