“Shy was running last week, so that was great progress for us,” Jones said. “We anticipate him being in training camp right when we start. Now, he’ll probably be limited in some aspects, but him running and doing change-of-direction drills was very encouraging to see.”
Jones stopped short of giving even an approximate timeline on Tuttle’s return to full clearance, though.
“Again, the body heals at different rates, so we don’t ever put a timetable [on it],” Jones said. “But he has made great progress over the summer months.”


I'm starting to fill confident that Tuttle will be good to go by the time we start SEC play. When he's healthy he's a force to be reckoned with.

If we can get Shy and KMac eating up multiple blocks in the middle, man, we can be sooooo much better this season up front. Fingers crossed!

When resiliency, hard work and on field performance is combined, Shy is not even challenged IMO. Guy is a warrior and a stud flat out. Should be representing us next year @ SEC Media Days, if he's still around.

It sounds like he will be ready to go by Georgia Tech. This is great news.

With both at 1005 we could dominate in the trenches this season. We have a ton on talent and potential.

Temper your expectations. That's a nasty injury and a massive man and physicality that knee has to support. For him to be ready for the start of the season would be absolutely amazing.

There are some injury prevention the S&C guy can help with, and some not so much. In Shy's case, all the king's horses and all the king's trainers couldn't have prevented those. Now, if you make cut blocks illegal? Then, you might be getting somewhere.

Tuttle will never be the same. I think the most you can hope for is that he'll be a serviceable player at best.

He's had 2 very significant knee/leg injuries which are incredibly difficult to come back from at any position, much less defensive tackle.

Had a buddy who the doctors told he'd probably never walk again.

Less than two years later, he was running in a marathon.

Not saying defensive tackle is much like soldier or distance runner, just saying this:

never underestimate the power of the human spirit. You certainly can not say Shy will never be the same. For all you or I know, he might be even better.

Only one thing's for certain: we as Tennessee fans shouldn't be selling Shy or any of our other lads short.

Exactly. I would never risk him at GT with all of their cut blocking. Not worth the risk.

All because of a dirty UGA player going after his knees from behind. Still pissed off about that to this very day. If that didn't happen, he'd still be dominating.

Rather have him at 100% instead of "almost". Almost makes it easier to reinjure and further loss of games.
