Self defense.I guess that's one reason the boy's attorney is court appointed (more like a court administrator) and probably will stay that way his entire career.That is such weak defense.It's obvious they could have ridden away,told the police if they felt threatened.Does sound like the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree with all the family support.

True, they could have fled the scene. But then again, think about your average jury members. I think most people nowadays loathe homeless people, rather than feeling charitable towards them. Don't be surprised if they get acquitted.

The self defense argument only goes so far. It only allows you to use equal force to protect yourself. Smashing a cinder block to a drunk homeless guys face greatly exceeds the alleged pebble and trash can lid throwing.

There is nothing wrong with an attorney allowing her client to give his side of the story. But when it is so obviously inconsistent with the established facts as to be made up or inferred upon false facts, then the attorney should withdraw.
