I meant to post this the other day but forgot about it.

This law hasn't been passed yet, but if it does the bill amendment will, among other things, make it illegal to broadcast gaming footage on the web. Repeat offenders may not only face civil fines, but could also face a potential 5 year trip to the pin and a possible felony charge on their record.

New bill upgrades unauthorized Internet streaming to a felony

This is mainly aimed to fight the streaming and broadcasting of tv shows, music, and movies. Games just have the misfortune of falling under the same category. Pretty big news for the web, especially for youtube any other type of streaming site.

Who gives a ****.

Not about the topic at hand but whether people stream video games or not. I don't get it... what are they losing out on?

Streaming music and movies can potentially hurt those respective industries if the people doing the watching or streaming end up not buying the actual film or album because they've already seen or heard the work online.

With video games you could make the argument that it has the exact opposite effect. It's essentially free advertising for gaming companies and it shouldn't fall under the same category.

Oh I know. I wasn't arguing music and movies. I was pointing out streaming video games specifically. Don't see how anyone loses money by watching people play video games. What's the problem?

Ask yourself this: what happens when ANYONE tries to fight a new and convenient technology?

New version of PROTECT IP Act may target legal sites - Computerworld

Just a quick update to this thread.

Now not only is video game streaming in possible jeapordy, but also the basic nature of the internet now as well. This isn't the same law proposed as S.978, but rathar is called E-Parasite and is a new version of the Protect IP Act that has been modified and has taken on certain qualities of S.978....which this thread was originally about. If passed, it would make websites (especially those like youtube, twitter, facebook, etc.) liable for certain users uploading copyrighted material (be it games, music, or movies).

As a results those sites may then potentially be filtered out of search engines like google and yahoo meanings there won't be any search results for their sites returned.....which not only hurts those website but any person or business that chooses to advertise through or be associated with them.
