Slow sports day, thought I'd start a thread about any good up and coming bands where VN folks live. Always love to learn about new music.

Here in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area, three stand out right now:

Roman Candle: romancandlemusic.com
Good Southern Rock sound. Hints of Rolling Stones. Same producer who worked on many Ryan Adams albums.
Album is "Wee Hours Review" (#38 on Paste Magazine's 100 best albums of 2006)

The Old Ceremony: theoldceremony.com
Eclectic, theatrical rock/pop. Hints of Cake, Beatles/Paul McCartney, Squeeze. Playing several shows with Cake this year.
Album is "Our One Mistake" (#100 on Paste list)

Annuals - annualsmusic.com
Don't know how to describe. Strong radiohead, Beatles, Paul Simon influence. Touring through Europe/UK right now.
Album is "Be He Me"

Highly recommend all of these. Can sample and buy all thru ITunes.

Others?

Scott Miller - original frontman of the Knoxvillian V-roys, now plays with "the Commonwealth." Solo acoustic show next weekend at the Bijou. Finger lickin' good.

Superdrag (high school alumni turned MTV one-hit-wonders with "Sucked Out" ala '94(?)) is reuniting for a short tour stint this fall.

10 Years - friends of my little brother have now hit the big time. If you like it heavy and moody, check them out.

I grew up in Kville. Knew about the V-Roys, of course, but not the others. Shows how out of it I was when I lived there.

Just sampled Scott Miller and the Commonwealth stuff - I dig it. Bummer he's not playing in my neck of the woods anytime soon.

10 years isn't exactly my thing, but the sound is really good. A bit of STP in them, which is never a bad thing.

10 Years is awesome.

Anyways, I have a longtime friend in a band called Bridgeford out of the Quad Cities here. They originally had an east coast / southeast tour scheduled for this summer but cancelled because they got signed by an indie label.

There's a band from the Michigan area that I really like called Dean Simmons and the Kamens. They're really more of a spoof band that bases all of their songs around FIRST robotics. But they're pretty good.
