Thought this interesting article. Maybe it's because I don't go on other SEC sites (except UGA and FL when they lose to rub it in), or maybe because we're larger fan base and more spirited about our team...but certainly seems like more unhappiness about Vols vs other 7 listed. Hope Nebraska win and good end to recruiting cycle can turn some of the rhetoric about direction of the team?

Losing to SC and Vandy, it's hard to be happy about that no matter what happened the other 11 weeks(we lost our bye week, at the very least wasted it). Are they both going bowling because of us? Are we the only team they both beat this year?

Get it together Butch!

Was anybody else on that list 2-2 against Vandy over the last four years ? Did another coach on that list ask for a raise after going 2-2 against Vandy? There's unhappy and then there is embarrassed.

Valid point...not discounting horrid losses to VU or SC, or how Jones handles the media. But, hypothetically, would we be in any better mood if we beat Vandy but didn't catch the hail mary @ UGA?

UGA was, actually (2013 and 2016).

(Though not mentioned, also Kentucky.)

Marginally happier if we beat both USCe and Vandy; even with another beat down by Bama in the SECC. 9-4 is better than 8-4 especially with a SECEC. At least IMHO.

These coaches aren't being given 8 figure deals to be good enough to get to a bowl or "1-0" every week they get a TN Tech.

Jones, Malzahn, McElwain, Smart, and Sumlin are all at schools that have been historical powers. The pressure should rightly be on all of them to improve the results from this season in short order.

I think most people could stomach losing a close game to UGA a lot more than choking in two games against teams that the Vols had a clear talent advantage against.

Definitely would be a lot of disgruntled folk (myself included) when the East title was the stated goal but the way it went down has left a more sour taste with many fans.

Id feel better about losing to UGA than Vandy. You should never feel good about losing to them.

Is a Nebraska win all that important considering what the goal was this season? Tennessee was given the east and did everything right. Then SC happened. A down team and what makes it worse is we were coming off a bye. Then Butch says F the fans! Really? Regardless, I think most fans let that go and things seemed to be back on track. Butch checked out mentally when he said he didn't know about the LSU game. Then Vandy happened and to most Butch was done.

Either way he'll be here and next year will determine his fate. I don't think he makes it.

Losing the games is one thing.. Yeah losing to USCjr and Vandy was bad enough. The unhappy part has to come over how this team looked at times this year. Offense was wildly inconsistent, unimaginative, and repetitive at times. The defense was just good enough early on to win games, then resembled a Chinese firedrill the last 3 games. The injuries, turnovers were also a problem. It was just sloppy all the way around this year. I love the vols as much as anyone, but at times it was hard to watch.. People were calling for us to lose one we shouldn't after they had saw the product enough to know what it was. Only problem is, it was bad enough to lose two they shouldn't. Falls on Jones. His product didn't impress many people this year.

As far as the rest of the SEC goes. Alabama is forcing everyone to up their game. So far it doesn't seem to be happening as the separation seems to be getting wider. It's mostly QB play in this league. There just aren't many good ones right now.. Some promising young QB's though and i think it gets better as early as next year.

The QB position will def take big steps next season.
Eason is easily the best of the bunch. I exclude Hurts because anyone can run that offense.

Would we be in a better mood had we beaten Vandy and not had a player quit walking into the endzone and played defense agaisnt UGA and not needing a hail mary at the end?

Im confused, if we beat Vandy and USC we would have been 10-2 / 10-3 after the SECCG?

It doesn't seem to matter at Bama.. They just ask the QB to not lose games for them. We'll see if it's a seamless transition to Sark. It probably will be. I'm ready for Saban to retire. He's making college football ho hum anymore.

Yep, that's the QBs role at Bama just manage the game make a couple plays if it's there and don't lose the game. I'm not ready to see him go I want Tennessee to get a win against him badly.

10-2 brings more excitement for a bowl game over 8-4. Everyone has a different feel about the program.

But there are 8-4's that feel better when you get to this point. There are 8-4's that get you into a better bowl game than the 8-4 we ended with.

I suspect that most would have felt better with 8-4 if losses had been Virginia Tech and Georgia rather than South Carolina and Vanderbilt.

Usually, coaches DO NOT ASK for raises. i review is make and the coach is rated to determine a raise and or extension. If coaches ask for raises they are usually on the way out.

Butch wanted out but no one would bite.
Asking for a raise with new bosses coming in is like you said essentially begging to be fired at the first sign of trouble next season

And Muschamp would be nice to beat him to SMH!

In hindsight, 10-2 means you lost a game to the best team in the country and let one slip by on the road against a mediocre team that you turned it over too much against. And yet still had a shot to win. You move on to Atl, finish 10-3 and head to the Sugar Bowl.

8-4 means you dropped 2 more games to inferior opponents out of your last 5 games and you land in Nashville. I agree that some would feel better finishing 5-0 at the end season. Im not sure it makes that much difference to me.
