Nice summary...........I like this kind of info, helps with watching the games and compare to other defenses.

Way over my head. I seem to remember,,, watch the ball, go tackle the guy who has it!! Of course this was before face masks, no thigh, hip and tail bone pads. Oh! and only high top leather shoes with longggg cleats worn! (and usually the ones you got each fall were worn by a guy who didn't take a shower after practice/games the year before....)

And then you spent your summer campaigning for Calvin Coolidge?

Not quite, mid 50's. Small town school with little money support from any source. Believe this? Practice was last hour or after school hours and many players had to find ways home or leave at end of school riding a school bus AND work til supper time and later on a farm. These guys really loved the game!!!

My dad played back then, heard all those stories. They didn't have much money and he had an old beater he had bought using money he made picking cotton. Anyway, the booster club would chip in for his gas money so he could drive to school and stay for practice. Times have certainly changed.

Cone or Connie. Great videos out about defensive football from Pruitt & other great coaches.

Checked your boy Lincoln Riley out back when we were still playing them. Good night. Some of his stuff is ridiculous. I was really looking forward to seeing that matchup.

Me too. Still believe we would have beaten their ass. The ole saying A good defense wins against a good offense

As long as the defense doesn't resemble the Sunseri "Chinese Fire Drill" before the snap and the Swiss Cheese defense that allows 40 pts a game.

He said good. Not that garbage we fielded, but few defenses have stopped oklahoma. Lucky to slow them down

We're probably two more Pruitt style classes from looking the type of team physically that can line up and play with an Oklahoma, or anybody else out there. It's just a matter of time in my opinion.

Try watching his seminar video. Your head will spin and make you realize you know nothing.

I played defense in high school in the early 2000s and whenever our coaches would try to implement more advanced defensive packages, I would never play as well because I’d hesitate while trying to think through it all in my head. There just wasn’t really enough practice time to implement that kind of stuff to where it becomes instinctual.

We probably have average to above average talent at corner and safety...but more importantly, we have probably the best DB coaches in the game back there in Ansley and Pruitt himself. This year, we have better depth as well.

Pruitts defenses put a great deal of pressure on his corners and safeties because he plays so much press man at corner and split safety looks over the top...all 4 guys have to be able to play man nearly every snap against SEC WR which are the fastest in the nation. Pruitt says good defense starts on the back end and plays forward...many coaches see it starting up front at the LOS and moving backwards. Judging by the huge improvements on defense, I believe we have 1 of the best defensive coaches in the country in Pruitt. Start for him and you can play on Sundays. Its about that simple.

This 10 game stretch will be a meat grinder this year. Hope we can avoid injuries and play good defense all year. If so, we can have a good season. Go Vols.
