Good story about Dobbs. SIAP

But the Union Heights fifth grader and Tennessee’s star quarterback have a deeper bond: they both have the condition known as Alopecia, a disorder in which a person’s immune system attacks the hair follicles resulting in hairless patches or, as in Riley’s case, the loss of hair completely.

“He has Alopecia like I do. You can tell because afterwards he’ll take his helmet off. He has some hair on his head but he doesn’t have any eyebrows so you can tell,” she said. “It’s cool that a famous athlete has the same thing I do.”

“It’s obviously a very sensitive issue,” Dobbs said of the condition and how it can affect young people. “My advice was ‘no, I’m not really worried.’ People that might make fun of you or stuff, they’re just not aware. It’s really just ignorance. So you can’t really pay any mind to it.

“You can’t really pay any attention to someone else’s ignorance. You’ve got to just go about your day and have confidence in yourself. I just kind of told her that it’s always about yourself. Just have confidence in yourself, your personality.”

"You can’t really pay any attention to someone else’s ignorance. You’ve got to just go about your day and have confidence in yourself."

Someone has taught this young man how to act with class and dignity. Whoever you are ... Thank You!

Compare this approach to the ugliness that is presenting itself daily across our nation. The difference is night and day.

I like great Vol players. But, I love great Vol players who are also great examples to those who are watching them live life. Very impressed.

He is climbing the list of my all time favorite Vols. He is such a class act and seems to do so many great things off the field. So glad he is a Vol.

Agree. Its nice with all the other stuff going on to say "look at this guy". He's a great role model imo, his family should be proud.

Too bad the Tennessee football program is riddled with culture problems...

Incredibly positive face of the program. It's a blessing to have him be a Vol.

Maybe this will shed some light on the "ignorant" comments people on here have made about Dobbs not having eyebrows! Last year there were several "ignorant" posts on here about Dobb's hair or lack there of. People trying to be funny. Shameful.

I kinda figured that was why his eyebrows are non existent. I had heard rumor he did it intentionally to honor his mom with some kind of health issue. Glad we know. I hope people will stop with the comments. He is a class act as is his family. Good to see some people are still teaching character, morals, class and humility. Great job family

Partial quote. The rest of the quote went:

Not long ago, I was in a Japanese steak house with friends and a date. Some joker one table over got scared of a high flame and made a bald joke about me. We all heard it, and I guess it was a bit embarrassing. For him. Well... I guess not because a couple of days later someone showed me a post where he bragged about it on Volnation.

But you can't pay that kind of ignorance any mind.

Me and Riley laughed about it when I told her the story. We call him "hairy Neanderthal." "Ooh! Big Flame! Gunk scared!"

In this instance I'd say it's his parents.

I can't say it any better than you just did. What a great young man! A VFL! Win lose or draw I'm proud he's our QB and currently the face of our program along with many other fine young men! God Bless the Vols!

I had never heard of alopecia, but thanks to Dobbs and VN I learned about it, googled it and realized I had it as well. Thankfully it's just a spot on both of my shins, but they're as bald as though there was never hair there to begin with. I have other autoimmunity issues so it makes sense. Good read and glad to have Dobbs on this team.
