Getting Uncomfortable - UTSPORTS.COM - University of Tennessee Athletics

I enjoyed reading this article, but was feeling uncomfortable about where Tennessee has been the last 3 or 4 years. That is not only on the field and on the scoreboard, but behind the scenes. If this article holds true then this team was never prepared to play against anyone not only in the top ten, but top 25. It all starts in the weight room and these boys seem amazed with the workout procedures the coach is putting them through. This does not hold well for the last staff that ventured through Tennessee.

Time will tell. But, let me remind you, everytime we get a new S&C coach we get articles like this. We've gotten a new one like about every year for the past 5 or 6. They have their own way of doing things. Like carrying notebooks and the S&D coach running suicides with the players and all that. I can see how this new guy is building team first attitude, but not to be negative, but those guys before didn't get to be D1 S&D coaches for letting the players slack.

Yep, with a change you always hear the players are "working harder than ever". Other good ones are:

"The players have bought into the system"

"Everybody's on the same page"

"They're doing all the little things"

"They've taken on the personality our their coach"

'They're busting their butts"

Four HC since 2008, a ton of different assistant coaches during that time and two different AD's. Hard to stay relevant, let alone win with constant changes like that going on. Hopefully fourth times the charm!

Hard to believe that these kids were as bad as they showed out last year.I think Dooley was such a pr- -k no body wanted or cared to play for him

The one thing that stuck with me is how they now lift. It was mentioned that last year they lifted like professional weightlifters and now they're lifting to build strength and stamina. Hopefully, they will now have football strength and speed.

I saw Coach Fulmer and Al Wilson and crew last night at King and the one thing that got everyone fired up was when Al Wilson said "That 98 team had passion which is something that is lacking down there right now" That got a lot of Amen's from the crowd. Hopefully CBJ and staff are bringing it back.

Every year, it's the same....they're really going all out, to make a difference in the fall.

Don't forget that poorly conditioned and ill prepared football team and program beat the Cinncy team like a rented mule. Not buying what the article is selling.

That team also beat Vandy.......which beat us like a mule this year and beat Duke while they were down 20+ points at halftime. With a 65ish ranked class in recruiting. They also beat the great "Charlie Strong" 2/ 3 Times and only lost in overtime AND beat Vtech while they were ranked top 25. He has also won 4/6 conference championship. IN YO FACE

I think Coach Jones and his staff are trying to do just that. You can see it from his staff's relentless recruiting efforts to his 1st annual football team family day or whatever they call it...Butch Jones is trying to rebuild Tennessee from the ground up. I think with his "can do" attitude and work ethic, he will. You just didn't see that under Dooley's regime.

We have Lawson as the strength coach, Can he get the recruit Lawson to chose us and not Auburn??

We have Elder as the tight ends coach, can he get Corn Elder to sign with the 2014 class?????

Other than that, we are averaging a new strength coach every year, since 2008. It is a revolving door!!!!!

I've always been impressed with Rbs, who can bench press 400 pounds and big linemen, who can bench press 500 or 600 pounds. I believe that if a lineman is 6'3" and weighs around 285 pounds and he can only bench press 300 pounds, he is one big candy ass!! I want Tennessee to be the strongest that they have been in about 10 years. If the strength and conditioning coaches aren't thinking along those same lines, Tennessee's football season could be longer than the players want it to be or shorter than they want it to be. Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina certainly aren't going to give Tennessee some slack when the time comes!

The negative guys don't like positive facts. They live to be foolish and negative. It is all a matter of attitude.

What is this 'in Yo face' stuff?" I am not talking about 6 degrees of separation, I am talking about head to head competition. And I am not being negative, just logical. Someone says so and so's conditioning program is better maybe, but all I am saying is in and head to head match up it did not show up as an issue that you could draw that conclusion from.
