Also, Whuh?
One quarterbacks in.
One quarterbacks out.
Or at least thats the way the quarterback carousel spin went on Wednesday.
Kentucky Coach Joker Phillips reported today that freshman quarterback Patrick Towles (high ankle sprain) has been able to practice this week, making it likely he will play at Missouri on Saturday in conjunction with fellow true freshman Jalen Whitlow and perhaps with some senior Morgan Newton sprinkled in.
Phillips reported that Towles took a lot of reps on Wednesday, but seemed to have better command of the football when he practiced on Tuesday.
I thought he looked better yesterday as far as his control of the ball and command all those things, but again, its first reps hes gotten yesterday and today in a long time, the coach said. So well throw him out there and see how he looks.
But Phillips added that the freshmans ankle seems to be holding up well.
He had an air cast on yesterday and he just didnt feel comfortable with it, Phillips said. He still moved around fairly well. Today once he took it off; he decided to take it off himself not himself, our trainers gave him the OK I thought he actually moved around a lot better today even today than he did yesterday. The cast might have limited him a little bit in the mobility in his ankle.
When asked if UK will attempt to use all three quarterbacks on Saturday, Phillips said yes.
Well still have a little small package for him, try to get him involved also, Phillips said of Newton. Ive never played three quarterbacks in a game before.
On the Southeastern Conference coaches teleconference Wednesday, Mizzou Coach Gary Pinkel said he still doesnt expect Tigers junior quarterback James Franklin, who sprained his MCL against Vanderbilt on Oct. 6, to play on Saturday. Hes just jogging around a little bit. We dont anticipate him playing.
Pinkel did say that he expects Franklin to return for the Tigers game at Florida on Nov. 3.
Redshirt freshman Corbin Berkstresser likely will get the starting nod again for the Tigers. The backup situation is interesting, though, because true freshman Maty Mauk has been slated to redshirt.
