Thought I'd share this article from today's Red and Black (and blue, after the FL loss):

Richt’s play calling ‘crippled’ offense

Like all Georgia fans, I was upset at our loss in the Florida-Georgia game.

It was unfortunate that D.J. Shockley was unavailable.

However, I can’t help but second guess Coach Richt’s play calling throughout the game.

I felt he crippled our offense by calling conservative, safe plays. I would rather lose going full out than calling running plays with with long yardage remaining at a critical time in the game.

Tereshinski cannot run like Shockley and should have thrown more throughout the game.

Hopefully, we can regroup for Auburn in two weeks.

Give it time, and they will be calling for Richt's head. They are as entitled as UT fans.

That pass to Tereshinski for UGA's only touchdown was not very conservative. It was risky but it paid off. It was unpredictable. Meyer's face was priceless. He was shocked.

If the Red and Black was a credible news source and not just a venting forum for the occassional student, I'd believe there would be a mutiny there. Wait until the Auburn game. If Auburn wins, THEN you'll start hearing the grumblings get louder.

UGA will find themselves in a predicament. It showed this year with depth. Losing as much talent as they did this year and now having to fight Meyer AND Spurrier while we continue to hit their state as well, the talent pool is shrinking. That means depth shrinks. if their starters get beat up then they can't last in the big games.

I guarantee you if their schedule was as difficult as ours is they'd be showing 1-2 more losses as well.

I know they will, as we all seem to do if we can't beat the #1 rival. At least now I won't have to hear all the griping and moaning about being undeafeated and getting "shafted" by the BCS.

What's really going to get the UGA folks in an uproar is if they lose to Auburn and then don't make it to the SEC Championship game.

There was a poll in my local paper today where 57% said that Mark Richt needed to hire an OC. Really, the UGA offense hasn't quite performed smoothly and has been woeful in the red zone for the past 2 years, but they've been able to escape almost every time the offense sputters against teams like Arkansas, Ole Miss, South Carolina etc.

Anyone have the time to figure out which of the top teams do not use OC's during the game??? Personally, I like seeing the head coach working the game like Spurrier, Richt, Nutt, etc. Especially Nutt... he's like a train wreck after every play.

THEY HAD NO PROBLEM SCORING AT WILL AGAINST US...

HIS PLAY-CALLING WASN'T CONSERVATIVE EITHER. THEY RAN IT, THREW IT, AND SOME...

Hey guys long time no talk. Personally I think Richt has done a great job playcalling even though he did call the game against UF conservatively. But I can't blame a man who has taken our program to a level that it hasn't been at since the 80's. I know at times that he may not be making the correct calls but he is still young in his coaching career and will have to learn from his mistakes. Right now I know a few DAWG fans are griping because they say he ruined our chances at a MNC but to them I say, How close where we to MNC before Richt. Exactly, no where close. The problem is he has brought success to a program that has been starving for it for the last 17-18 years and now that we have had a taste we want more and more. On that note I dont think he is going any time soon and the trued DAWG fans know that he has been a great lift for our program. GoooOOOOOO DAWGS!

More than likely he will not go anywhere until the FlaState job comes open, but unless they get to a few BCS bowls soon, you will hear fans begin to complain. I grew up in GA, and I know your fans like the back of my hand.

I think Richt has done well, too... I was mainly just showing that many of us football fans are quite alike. I think a lot of TN fans would be just as disgusted with a 6-1 record as we are with a 3-4 record if that 1 loss was to Alabama, Florida, or Georgia.

Iknow that Richt was probably conservative mostly b/c of the QB situation, but i'm curious to see if he falls into the rut of conservative play calling now that GA is winning some bigger games on a regular basis. When Fulmer became head coach, TN actually opened up quite a bit, but now we're almost back down to Johnny Majors-level playcalling.

As a note, it seems that a lot of teams open up the play book in two situations 1) they're a huge favorite and can afford to take the chances, or 2) they're a huge underdog and don't have much to lose. Then, there are a few who gamble in the middle of a dogfight and let the chips fall where they may... Spurrier, Osborne, Coker to name a few. Richt seemed to be of the same mindset up to this point, but I wonder if he'll start being conservative against Ga Tech, FL, and anyone else who plays Ga hard.

6-1 and still in the driver seat for SECCG. They trade spots at 3-4 and they would not be complaining anymore at 6-1. I think they are more frustarated in their inability to beat Florida on a regualr basis.

Shockley=Win. Any questions?

They lost to Florida because he was out. Better start preparing for next year after this magnificent season. :devilsmoke:
