Tyson Helton is our 2 milli a year OC and..

He's very good. I think his top end is right up there with the best in the country.

For now, though, he's a rookie OC, and he's gonna make some rookie mistakes. Everyone does, their first year or two in a job. He'll gain experience, and those mistakes will fade away.

He will also get more and more in tune with CJP as they grow into their jobs together. Today, he was off key a bit with Pruitt at the end of the 1st half, when he started out rather conservative (run plays) and the camera caught Pruitt giving him an earful (no doubt saying something along the lines of, "what are you doing? you have a chance to score! make something of it! go try to score!).

So he'll grow out of the new guy errors (so will Pruitt), and he and the other coaching staff will grow closer and closer together until they work like a well-oiled machine. At that point, I think we're going to see Coach Helton show himself to be a really top-tier OC.

I don't think I would go that far just yet.
I can say he took a good a-- eating from CJP after one really bone headed call he made. About the same quality of chewing CJP gave Osborn for trying to pitch the ball at end of the game.
That kind of thing happens all the time. Helton is good.

I couldn’t think of anyone I’m trading him for. His scheming and QB development this season has been a sight to behold. Next season this offense explodes
I think all the coaches need the time to get their people recruited. Today was a good day just like Auburn. Helton is going t have to develop an intermediate passing game. Not just behind the line and long ball passes...Got to develop some good 10/15 yd passing plays. So I say give all the coaches time. Helton got eaten alive when he called that behind the line pass that almost was intercepted.

You have the ass chewing from Pruitt completely wrong. CJP told him to keep it on the #@## @%&# ground because JG damn near threw a pick six.

The next play call was a big gainer on the ground that's when passing became acceptable.

I think Helton has grown tremendously this season. As the season went on he has indeed focused on getting the ball to his play makers, no more 10 passing attempts to guys who have demonstrated they won't catch it. Chandler, Callaway, and Jennings are the primary playmakers and Helton has done a very good job the last few weeks feeding them the ball. He still has a tendency to make too many throws behind the line of scrimmage. The longer the ball stays behind the line of scrimmage the longer it is you're not gaining yardage upfield and the defense gets to fly towards it. A few of these plays are ok, like 2 or 3, but we're doing 6 or 8 of them. Other than that Helton just like his team is getting better every week.

You could be right. Helton was conservative (a screen is not an aggressive attack downfield). So the butt-chewing could've been about trying to win, or it could've been about avoiding a turnover. We'll probably never know which.

But if you ask 75% of VN he sucks because he is not putting up 40 points a game with the roster that went a month without scoring an offensive td last year.

I’m loving this offense even in the losses. I like the power sets. I like the play calling. Helton calls the deep ball often and that’s good. We just need more players with greater ability.

Boy Pruitt went after him when they threw on first down into traffic the possession before half. Turned out okay but man that could have been bad.

Could have been a pick 6 so Pruitt was furious. That’s the “learning on the job” Helton is experiencing.

Today was a step forward for Helton. At least he and Pruitt are learning from their previous games. Great win for everyone.

It seems Helton turned the corner when he started being down on the field where he can connect better w/ JG. He may have wanted to go back up in the press box after that call...it worked out great though!!!
