I remember him coming for a game and it was reported he ate like two large Stefano pizzas.
I don't know about that , but I was at a game at Stokley when Barkley was playing for Auburn, and somebody sent 2 pizzas, or 2 pizza boxes courtside to him as a joke. I had a single ticket in those days behind the goal right where the team went into the dressing room. Auburn was warming up at that goal just a few feet from me. He got a laugh out of it, but he didn't eat pizza that time, just a few minutes before tipoff.

I'm not 100% but I thought that was in response to him eating the pizzas the night before. Back in those days the team took more time at each venue. Probably traveled by bus. This is from my memory and it has a slipped a bit the last few years.

I'm willing to bet that Charles brought up Stokes in some form or fashion. He was all about some Jarnell during the NCAA tournament.

I'd always seen him listed at 6'6, but truth be told, I don't think he is much taller than 6'4.

Truly, one of the most entertaining players to ever set foot in Stokely Athletic Center. They would put him under the goal on defense and he would block EVERYONE'S shot. Quite the talker too.... I really miss those days of hoops.

And I never saw a guy as big as he was then that could jump like he could. They called him "bread truck" when he was at Auburn. I saw him take off on a breakaway from around the free throw line and stuff it. Nobody in their right mind would get in his way either...

I remember Tyrone Beamen and Charles trash talking up and down the court one game. Maybe when we had Dale Ellis. Those were some really good shows. No player I've ever seen compares to Barkley. Freak of nature.

Looking at this picture makes me realize that this is a regular-Joe, blue-collar coaching staff. I like it
