Are there any other schools other than UT rumored to be in the running for his services?

My guess would be UT or Memphis. Problem with Memphis is that they are already over the scholly limit(I think). He still has to receive a hardship appeal which shouldn't be too difficult considering there was a coaching change, he has a kid, and his dad has cancer.

Article from the Tennessean:

Tyler Smith possibly headed to UT - Nashville, Tennessee - Friday, 04/20/07 - Tennessean.com

KNOXVILLE – Former Giles County High star Tyler Smith has been granted a release from Iowa and plans to transfer, possibly to Tennessee.

Iowa athletic department officials issued a statement today saying that Smith was transferring to be closer to his father, Billy, who’s battling cancer.

Tyler Smith, a 6-7 forward, has told several people close to him that he has a strong interest in Tennessee and hopes to win a hardship appeal from the NCAA that would allow him to play right away next season without having to sit out a year. The institution that Smith transfers to would have to file that appeal.

just read an article on Volquest. Smith is quoted as saying "Right now I want to play at Tennessee. I will look at other schools, but only if something falls through with Tennessee.

College can be a humbling experience... people change and especially when faced with a health issue in his family. My guess is he has grown up a lot and if Bruce accepts him I trust him 100% on it.

He's gone from flunking a class to get out of UT to apparently being excited about the prospect of being a Vol. That signals a change to me. Plus, let's not forget that there was another time when UT was at the top of his list.

I don't see how Pearl could refuse to take him after refusing to release him previously.

amazing. If you look at his numbers as a freshmen, you have to be a little excited about what he will bring to the table. This team will have so much depth now with Williams, Tyler Smith, and Tatum...This is going to be a top 10 team!

And, he can't just tell somebody that they'll get their chance after the '04s are gone, because of the recruits he's hoping to sign this year.

I think anyone that comes to play here knows that they'll be sharing some time if they wanna compete for championships.
