Tyler Bray vs. Aaron Murray

I like Bray,I think Bray will better will be better in the long run but I think he needs to mature a little bit. Murray is good but his coaching will probably hurt his development like Staford. I think Bray has al the tools he needs, maybe add a little weight of course. Some people are anointing him the next Manning. I don't know about that but if he develops the work ethic like Manning, he's going to have an amazing career.

Bray is mobile enough to extend the play a little and has a natural ability to step into the pocket. With Heistand working the big fellas I see many TDs in this kids future.

Favre should be in on this discussion. He was redshirted last year. I'm kind of glad he's getting overlooked though.

i really dont like miss st at all but i would be stoked if favre could become the starter and have a great career. i was a die hard brett fan forever and would love to have a new one to follow, as long as he sucks against TN i hope he has a great career. from what ive read kid sounds like a workaholic, doesnt have the natural talents his uncle did but still puts up big numbers (least in HS) due to determination and work ethic. sounds like a good kid, best of luck to him

I think Bray has a lot of natural instincts for the qb position and his receiver corps will benefit his development greatly.

This thread is like asking an American if they would rather live in the US or Afghanistan.

Please allow me to offer my insight. I will list a couple of points.

1. Comparing the two does not make sense. Murray was an early enrolee and had a redshirt year. Bray was thrown to the fire as a true freshman. I do like that Dooley threw Bray out there in the second half of the season because it was the weakest part of the schedule and it allowed for Bray to get comfortable. Kudos to Dooley.

2. Bray is the definition of a Pro-style QB. I think he has the arm to make all the throws. Bray will have to mature to the level where he needs to recognize that his arm can also get you in trouble sometimes, athletic defenses will bait you to throw at them. He will need more experience to recognize the defense that gets thrown at him. Next year will tell us alot.

I think the kid is a star in the making, he has plenty of targets at WR. He will need solid o-line play though, his grandma can probably outrun him. That's the one thing I don't like from him because if you notice; most of the big plays are achieved when a QB can run away from defenders. One last thing, the kid will need to put some weight on him.

3. Murray will be the best QB in the SEC next year. The kid is a workaholic, the coaching staff has to kick him out of the film room. As you know, Murray can take off on you at anytime. That is the biggest thing I like about Murray. He has a solid arm but he's no Matt Stafford. The biggest thing I like about Murray is his leadership, we have not had a leader like Murray since the David Greene era. The players look up to him and respect him. Plus, I think everybody knows he has what it takes to be an SEC QB.

4. I don't care about where they go in the NFL draft. This about the college game. I want results at UGA, not whether you're a first rounder or not. Remember that UT and UGA both had a top draft pick in the NFL but neither achieved a NC. Peyton obviously achieved more.

5. Murray and Bray are 2 complete different style of QB's. Time will tell who achieves more.

First of all allow me to say you had to neither A) read or B) post in this thread. It was not my intent to start a thread comparing their STYLES, instead I wanted people's opinions on how this QB battle would shake out and which one they would pick for their team. Obviously most, if not all of us Vol fans would pick Tyler, but I was hoping some fans would give Murray some props and they did. If you look at what I posted earlier I think Murray is an excellent QB and will have a very good career in his own way. But hey feel free to vent on us for wanting to talk about the bright future of two really good QBs and perhaps give yours a little credit which he rightfully deserves, thanks for stopping by fella

I think you're overstating the practical importance of Bray's (lack of) speed. I am not arguing that he is fast -- he isn't. But he brings to the table a perplexing combination of (a) being slow, and yet (b) having good footwork. He is surprisingly shifty and nuanced in the pocket and buys himself time that way.

Also, to your point that I bolded above. I have a hunch that Bray -- in 5.5 games -- had more completions where the ball was caught 25+ yards from the line of scrimmage than Murray had over the entire season.

Will depend on health and weapons. Time will only tell about the health but weapons . . . . . . . . . Bray > Murray

I think the whole gun-slinging mentality is overblown. He was a freshman trying to make things happen, and I don't think he will have to do that as much this year. It's going to be easier for him to read defenses and just know where to go with the ball.

And it's okay to be a gun slinger when a guy like Justin Hunter can go up and get the ball.

Murray is fairly accurate, but is very mobile and can extend plays and make things happen. Bray won't extend any plays with his feet, but he is very accurate and can make all the throws. Murray reminds me of Matt Jones and Bray reminds me of Ryan Mallett.

Bray has excellent pocket presence and extended many plays by stepping up or stepping out of pressure this year. I'm guessing you meant Bray won't give you those 10-15 yard scrambles

Hey guys I saw this forum on SEC.com and the topic is the future QB battles between Tyler and Murray from Georgia. In it you can post who you think is better now AND who you think will be better down the road. I realize I'm drinking the orange kool-aid here and give my vote to Tyler but I would have to blind not to see that Murray is a star as well and that this battle will be fun to watch. So my I will say Tyler but I wanted to get some of Volnation's thoughts on this. Please humor me and make this a legit debate, throw in some pros and cons of both QBs

This debate has happened a few times over in the recruiting forum, but it is worth delving into again IMO. You cannot go worng with either of these young men, but as a Vol fan, (and probably even if I wasn't) I am going with Bray. It has been since Manning left since I have been able to see a team I follow have a QB that can sling it all over the field like this Cat can. Bray has all of the intangibles an A+ QB needs to have to suceed at this level, and beyond. Murray can do almost everything Bray can, plus the added running ability he also brings to the table. I also believe Bray will have a better Pro carrer as well.

Yeah I know it has been talked about a lot but like I said I saw it and just thought I'd bring it up here and see what everybody thought. I agree that you can't go wrong with either, and being a UT fan I would take Tyler any day but I don't want to take anything away from Murray. Being a football junkie I'm going to enjoy watching these two compete in the SEC for the next few years.
