Echols wasn’t encouraged to flip. Unless you mean by the guy who was his position coach, who ended up becoming the head coach at USF (which is where he flipped to).

Idk if he was “encouraged” to flip but we had cut off contact for the most part. Pretty sure you can find AP saying similar but maybe I’m wrong on that. Like you said there were other factors as well but we weren’t really broken up that he went in another direction.

We replaced him with Cole Harrison who I forgot about and haven't heard anything about yet. I'm not going to lose sleep over Echols not being here but I think he was better than we replaced with. With the transfer portal and the way we are recruiting the position now we will be fine

Think Echols had a pretty bad ACL tear which caused some caution on our end coupled with the fact that he was being recruited hard by Golesh. Our staff had also identified his replacement

I doubt he’d flip from us to SMU, and if he does it’s because he’s encouraged to do so like Echols last year.

They have been very impressed with and love Cole Harrison. He just needs a year of physical development, like most will, in order to contribute at this level. The TE room guys have all mentioned him.

TE room is deep this year and going forward. Love that they are recruiting different types.
