Two Questions????

The big game at BMS may will never happen. But, a rivalry between the VT and UT would be awesome. Living in the mountain empire you can't help but see a clash of rabid fans. It would be a huge game in both Knoxville and Charlottesville.
Why would the University of Virginia care about a game between UT and Va. Tech?

We haven't played Va. Tech since 1937. What is more amazing, for border states, is our relationship with North Carolina. We played UNC every year from 1930 to 1961 (skipping the WWII years) alternating between Chapel Hill and K'ville , and we haven't played them since.

It was reported 1-2 weeks before Kiffin was hired that Ed Orgeron was on campus scouting the UT underclassmen to ascess the talent level and how difficult it would be to establish a credible defense at UT. Was this actually true?
We already have one of the best defenses in the country. If this is true, and Orgeron told Kiffin something like that, Orgeron is even stupider than I think he is, and that's saying quite a lot. And if Kiffin believed it, then the same goes for him.

It defies credibility, even for Orgeron. I can't see any of it being true.

Yeah, our only win in "The Swamp" between 1971 and 2001...only not against Florida.

Living in Alabama I depend on VolNation to keep me informed. Two rumors I heard in the past month that I would appreciate verification.

1) I heard Tony Barnhart on a Huntsville station say that Tennessee would likely play Florida State in the 2009 Chick-Fil-A preseason Classic in the Georgia Dome. Any truth to this?

2) It was reported 1-2 weeks before Kiffin was hired that Ed Orgeron was on campus scouting the UT underclassmen to ascess the talent level and how difficult it would be to establish a credible defense at UT. Was this actually true? I have never heard of anything like this. If true did he talk with the prior coaches and players or just look at tape?

I do remember AFTER Kiffin was hired, Brent Hubbs did report that Orgeron had been doing homework on the Vols current recruiting situation, and also returners. If I am not mistaken it was on the morning call in show on WBIR. Don't remember the exact date or quote, I have slept since then.

What is a pre-season classic? Has college football ever played pre-season games? Wouldn't this go against NCAA regulations? You sure he wasn't talking about a season opener? They would have to cancel the Western KY game if that's the case.

Alabama/ Clemson was part of it this year. The exact title is Chickfila College Kickoff....not a preseason game though if that is what you're asking.

Yeah, that is what I thought. Never heard of a pre-season college game. So, he apparently meant season opener.

I also believe he got the year mixed up. We may be involved in that game in 2010. But I believe this next year's game will be Alabama/Va. Tech.

Actually, before the college football season was expanded to 12 games there were preseason games sanctioned by the NCAA. Tennessee played Iowa in the 1987 Kickoff Classic and later played and tied eventual national champs Colorado in the 1990 Pigskin Classic.
