Two 5 star DTs looking at Vols (Rivals)

God we couldn't pay a top DT to come here during the Dooley years. So many threads on here complaining about how we need em. Now we're getting the best DT class in the nation. It's literally night and day difference

I remember those days. It seems like all the DT's we were after back then ended up flipping to Auburn. Brighter days ahead.

Lawrence is probably a big reason UNC wants Thig. After pulling Tuttle out of NC, Fedora doesn't want UT coming in and swiping another 5* DT. Thig is recruiting Lawrence.

I know Thig went to UNC, nostalgia, going "home" blah blah, but he would be absolutely stupid to make a lateral move to UNC. If I was him I wouldn't even take a DC job on that sinking ship over in Chapel Hill

This is similar with Tee Martin with us and USC.

DTU, am I right?

You're absolutely right! Adding "Defensive Tackle University" to our WRU name has a really nice ring to it. I sure wouldn't mind "Offensive Line U" being added to the mix as well...

I agree with you on that, but according to reports, he is being offered over $100k annually more than what he is earning at UT, probably plus a new title added to his position. And according to UNC fans, when Fedora is canned (they believe next season), Chizik will be named HC and will make TT his DC. Whether there is any validaty to that last statement, I don't know, but some UNC fans are feeling pretty confident he is going home. If UNC is seriously pushing for him, and it has to be assumed that is the case, I hope very much that Hart will make it worth his while to stay put.

I dunno. Tee's services are apparently thought enough of that he was the only one from Lane's staff to be retained by Sarkisian when he took over at USC.

I was talking about it from the perspective of a former alum turning down his alma mater for a lateral move.

That story is a bunch of fabricated BS. 500K would put Thig over what UNC pays their OC probably their DC too but IDK what Chizik makes. UNC has been notoriously cheap on football in the past, in 2012 they had the lowest assistant salary pool in the ACC and one of the lowest overall of major program. Let's forget the fact that they're cheap and also look at the fact that the program is an absolute dumpster fire which is about to get some more sanctions dropped on them by the NCAA.

Not to mention, he's about to reap the fruit of his labors in the upcoming seasons. Why leave now? Especially for a lateral position where the head coach is on the hot seat. Money talks, I get that. So, pay the man his money!

Oh, yeah.

Chapel Hill's not a bad place, but I honestly think the notion of "the call of the alma mater" is a little overblown in general. I'm not quite at that point in life yet, but I suspect those of you that are could confirm that there's a lot of consideration that goes into a professional move like that, especially when you're already making good money, living in a nice area, and in a good situation professionally. I notice Coach G didn't seem especially eager to uproot his young family for the Florida RB coach vacancy.
