My daughter is getting into vinyl. She has one of those stand-alone players, but I am looking for a decent vintage one to hookup to my hifi. I already got a preamp and purchased a lab290 at a church yard sale, but the counterweight and cover are missing. I am looking for some recommendations. Either some ideas on reasonable alternate options to try and shop for or options for salvaging the 290 and if it is worth it.

Have you looked on ebay for parts?

I have had a Technics Quartz SL-Q350 made in the 80s for about 25 years and like it. All the well known names produced quality turntables in the 70s and early 80s if you can find one in good shape.

Also, you might check any nearby small repair shops. A guy around here used to sell old electronic equipment (trade-ins, never picked up, etc.) before he retired and went out of business. You can find a lot of oddball stuff from hobbyists like him.

What is the rest of the equipment?

Filters…..other technical stuff…..an electrical gadget that makes the turntable spin at exactly 33.23987453987654300987542rpms…….and speakers that are made out of Costa Rican kitten striped mahogany.

Appreciate the advice. Looking for a little easier entry point than some of the suggestions so I will keep shopping.

Thanks for the help. Scored a Garrard 95b, pioneer 626 and a pair of Utah 12" speakers for $150 today. The pioneer has an issue with the left channel I will have to sort out, buy overall good sound and a decent little vintage setup for my daughter to get started.

Some images. Running it in mono for now and she is loving it. Sounds amazing for being from 70's and never being serviced.
