Turning Against Pruitt

Besides which, we’re not firing a coach in this financial climate. This athletic department was already not where it wants to be financially. COVID has schools cutting programs and cutting salaries. We can’t afford to fire/hire the football staff right now. Or next year.

Pruitt is our coach. Our only productive option is to support him. Be part of the solution or be part of the problem.

This is what we do now. Hire a coach who is unproven, we are then told by the coach worshippers how great a hire we made and how this is the coach we absolutely wanted and needed. Those who dare question the hire are blasted to hell and labeled a Negavol. Coach doesn't perform, everyone turns on him. Even the worshippers never liked the hire anyway. Fans revolt, administration gives in and makes another ho hum hire. Lather rinse repeat.

No one is getting fired , but you don't give people extensions before the year even starts... He's got a 5 game season and he probably needs to find a way to get to 5-5 so they can consider giving him another raise and extension, it's how they roll. I'm not even mad at Pruitt , but you have to laugh at how UT runs their program.. It's no wonder it's been in the gutter for so long. Bonehead seems to be in style up there.

I am not turning against him and no way I would fire anyone this year. I sure wouldn't give anyone a raise or extension either. Next year to me is really the prove it year.

I think the Defense will be fine the rest of the year, but am really disappointed in how the offense hasn't gotten any better during Pruitt's years even thought the roster is much better than when he started.

Remember, we just did a coaching search and there wasn't a lot of knockdown options. Some will say Leach, but look at Miss St! Who out there is better and really wants to come to Tennessee to be Head Football Coach?

and please dont give me schiano.....

Covid prolly screwed up throwing money at a big name to get Tennessee on their radar.

Don't worry though fellas, if I win the powerball, Tennessee is getting any coach we want

Why would you say "look at Miss State"? Leach has been there a half of season, not 3 years.

It's not unreasonable at all that fans are disgruntled with the job Pruitt has done thus far. We are in year 3! This is HIS program now, coaching with HIS recruits (except at the QB position which dumbfounds me!). Under Pruitt's program we have had to sit back and watch this team get embarrassed by Vanderbilt, embarrassed by Kentucky at home, lose to Georgia -freaking- State at home, and lose to BYU at home! In just 2-1/2 seasons we have had to endure 12 humiliating losses of 21 points or more and just overall ugly football play, win or lose. Don't act like the red flags aren't all over the place to give fans doubts as to whether Pruitt is the right guy for this job. Oh and let me save you the suspense, he's not! But what other choice do we have but to sit back and let it run it's course? He's not getting fired this year or next year unless the wheels just come off completely. I would absolutely LOVE to be wrong but I don't think I am. I think most of us on this forum have seen enough football over the years to recognize when a coach knows what he's doing and when he doesn't.

It just gets tiring to hear all the excuses made for him... JG (who he keeps putting out there), covid, botch’s s&c, botch’s recruiting, we should cancel the bama series, uga defensive linemen move before the snap, everyone cheats except for us, lack of player development is the players’ fault, the dline coach has philosophical differences, refs hate us, the SEC offices hate us, we should wait until every single player on the roster was recruited by pruitt (and you can’t include his first class, because botch probably talked to those players at some point), etc, etc, etc....

I just want some positive reasons to keep him instead of excuses for why we shouldn’t fire him. And not hypothetical positive reasons... ‘If (insert hypothetical here), then we would compete with bama, uga, and uf, and be on our way to the playoffs.’

Because I say so

No coach that’s good is going to come here. The problem isn’t the fan base, but the University and the BOT/Haslams. The cat was out of the bag during the last search and coaches know what a mess we have. It was just a few years ago that our requirements to enroll regarding math scores were more strict than Vandy’s for student athletes. We have a bunch of incompetent people at the top running the show doing whatever the Haslams tell them to do. And the Haslam boys are morons. They’ve been successful in life because of their dad’s money and his connections.

Pruitt isn't and shouldn't be fired this year. With that being said no way in hell should we have gave him a raise or extension. That was a stupid move on our behalf. If in 2022 Pruitt doesnt beat Georgia and Florida fire him and move on.
I guess Phil remembered Hamilton giving him one at a questionable time.

Quarterback. Quarterback. Quarterback. That's really all we need.

It's the biggest need but you're being very short-sighted if you think that's all we need. We have no elite edge rushers. We have no difference makers at tight end. We have no big physical RB's. Other than To'o To'o we have no elite LB's. We are deficient all over the field but yes, QB is by far the most glaring deficiency.

A huge part of that is lack of development by the coaching staff. Look at teams like Baylor that we beat in recruiting rankings by a wide margin every year, and yet they consistently field decent teams even with the coaching turnovers. They’d stomp a hole in us. Something is wrong with this staff, and there’s a great chance it is Pruitt micromanaging.

Buyout is $12 million. He is not going anywhere for the next two years.
I agree...Butch not off payroll yet until I think Feb. Arguably, we are a QB away from being mid-upper tier. Before flaming me away, we were hanging on for first half vs UGA, then came 4 turnovers. Same vs KY...the turnovers by QB. Bama we were out matched, but mentally, if we didn't fumble right out of half time, and we actually scored or moved the ball on first possession in 3rd qtr, we'd have still been in decent range to keep fighting. All of those turnovers totally took the air out of our games. Maurer is our most mobile QB, not counting the frosh who's not getting reps. Make the defenses defend the QB run. JG can't run, though he did have probably his best run in his career on Saturday for a first down.

I wonder about this too...especially on the offense side. Better get it together for Ark. If we sleep on them...seems like another possible KY. If we don't show up, we'll lose. We play a clean game, and we win.
