I was in attendance and a few things came up that should probably be addressed, including the pinky.
1. Mike Hamilton opened with the announcement that UT will now be partnered with FSN South. This means that 9 million homes across the south, and 4.5 million in Florida, along with 500k satellite subscribers in Tennessee will now have access to at least 4 non conference basketball games, the Phil Fulmer show at noon on Sundays, the CBP show, and the CPS show as well. That, along with taped replays of select Vols games.
2. Brent Musberger was leaving the Neyland-Thompson sports complex just before the press conferences started up.
3. Jarod Mayo, Ryan Karl, Montario Hardesty, and Ramone Foster are chomping at the bit to get to Cal, and none could hold back their enthusiasm in separate interviews. Mayo and Hardesty especially.
4. The pinky: As I said before, Fulmer never said Crompton was in line to start, but when asked if he was ready, Fulmer replied that he was. Ainge's finger didn't have any serious swelling or discoloration, nor any tape or a brace. He stated several times he would be starting in Berkley.
5. The kicking situation: Colquitt will be ready for punting duties and most likely kicking according the Fulmer. If not, then Lincoln, who has truely been consistent in practice, will get his shot after spending the last year getting chastised by his coach. Fulmer alluded to a lot of tough love when he talked about not wanting his players to be "dirt-kickers", especially Lincoln. Fulmer made a point to say he finally thinks Lincoln has matured enough to take the reigns if needed.
6. Hardesty is the most excited player on the team right now. He pointed to the fact that he is healthy for the first time since being the backup to Riggs three years ago as a true freshman. When asked if his 48 yard TD run was the highlight of his career, he was pretty non committal- leading yours truely to believe that the best of no. 2 is yet to come.
7. Fulmer is 14-1 in openers all time.
