Kiffin had high praise again for QB Jonathan Crompton and it appears the senior is beginning to separate himself. Gerald Jones was impressed as well.
"He is playing incredible. He is making all the right reads. He is minimizing his mistakes. He is playing really well," Jones said of Crompton. "I think he is competing for the job. He is competing everyday with B.J. and Nick and he is proving that he can be the quarterback."
Nick Stephens saw the most extensive action that he's seen thus far and says he's at about 85%, but still ahead of schedule.
"It felt pretty good at the beginning. I got snaps, I got progressively more and more. I got a lot in seven-on-seven," Stephens, who indicated he's about 85 percent, said. "Just my grip, just got weaker and weaker and I'm going to go in and rehab it right now and keep getting it better. For the most part, I'm way ahead of schedule. It feels a lot better than I thought it would right now."
Brandon Warren needs to take care of some off-the-field issues in order to reclaim his number according to Kiffin. He's had some "screw-ups" according to the coach.
Ben Bartholomew spent the majority of the day at TE even staying after practice to work with the coaches on the position.
Donald Langley worked exclusively at guard today and it's clear the coaches are trying to find a spot where he can contribute.
Demetrice Morley was at the hospital with his "significant other" who was in labor and missed practice.
Nigel Mitchell-Thornton worked at fullback.
Austin Johnson is getting comfortable at fullback and says that the role is more of a traditional one compared to how he was used in more of an H-back role last year.
They're using the fullback a lot differently than we did last year. Last year it was more of an H-back, there was a lot of motion. This year it seems like we have more of a role in the offense."
Vinson is getting surgery tomorrow and is out for the remainder of spring. Vlad Richard left practice early after a kick to the head and Wes Brown was limited today for undisclosed reasons.
Also Lennon Creer was held out of practice while his knee, which he injured Saturday before returning to practice, is being evaluated.
