I didn't realize Tubby made a little over 2 mil a year compared to Coach Fulmer a little over 2 mil a year.
Go figure.I have a feeling Bruce Pearl is going to be getting a huge boost in salary soon.

2 years w/ 20 plus wins, 2 ncaa tourney appearances. how big of a boost and how soon he will get it might depend on how far he goes in the tourney this yr. if he goes to the sweet 16 he's gettin some money

Bruce will get more money during the upcoming off-season. I doubt CPS will.

CBP will continue making more money if the program continues to make more money from basketball. And that usually goes hand in hand with more wins.

I guess UK fans think that 2+ mil is money wasted, kinda like UT fans think that 2+ mil is wasted. Comon Phil get them playing some BALL:lolabove:

There is no Title IX relative to coaching salaries..:p

Bruce is headed for the kind of raise that rewards him for the way the arena looks and sounds when the cameras are on. He deserves it, and no one will begrudge him being rewarded. Plus, we've seen already that Bruce is willing to put some of that money right back into the school. I think we get to enjoy the Pearl for at least several more years to come...

I would like to propose a new rule for the board, which is that no one is allowed to compare anything to anything as between Summitt and her program versus Pearl or Fulmer and their programs. Here is my reasoning:

From a purely objective point of view, none of it is comparable. The task of fielding one of the best women's teams is infinitely easier than doing so on the men's side because the opportunites that await successful men's players after college are about a million times more in number and benefit than the women's players.

Therefore, from a purely objective point of view and whether you care about women's programs or not, there is no basis for comparing their success because they are in totally different contexts.

Next, if you do happen to be a fan of Summitt and her team, you should not want there to be a comparison because a) the money generated by a mediocre men's team at any given major college is going to absolutely dwarf the money generated by the most successful women's teams. And I mean by a lot; and, b) because the women's product is not nearly as athletic or entertaining as the men's product, why on Earth would you want people comparing them knowing for a fact that the women's program will always lose the side-by-side battle?

And, if you happen to be like me and find the women's program at any university and any level to be silly and wasteful, all such posts do is drive you crazy. Its not like anyone will ever convince anyone else that women's college basketball is a worthwhile endeavor. I'm not saying it isn't, though I happen to feel that way. I realize it is subjective. But trying to compare that program to the men's program is a debate and battle that will always be lost. Always.

So why do it?

Your not very popular with the rainbow coalition are you?

CPS has made WCBB what it is. However most of what you say is true, except the part of it being a waste of time. You can't take away our good sports, it's all we got.:)

I don't think her salary should come close to CBP's, he needs a new deal.

You need to send this post to UT's AD because one of the reasons he cited for raising Summitt's salary to the 1 million dollar level was to make Summitt's and Pearl's salaries comparable, i.e. both a million dollars/yr.

So which AD do you send it to?

I only know of one Athletic Director at UT, Mike Hamilton.

Are you sure that Joan Cronan does not decide the salary for CPS? She is listed as the women's AD and MH as the men's on UT's website.

Yes JC does handle all womens athletics. It's just like anything else, the AD's apply for the coaches raises just like a dean would a professor.

Mike Hamilton announced Pat Summitts salary increase before.

UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE EXTENDS SUMMITT'S CONTRACT THROUGH 2012 :: Summitt is currently the winningest coach in Division 1 basketball with 913 wins

University of Tennessee President Dr. John Petersen and Women's Athletics Director Joan Cronan announced today that Head Women's Basketball Coach Pat Summitt was awarded a six-year contract extension and increased compensation.

They are separate depts. I think LG is right in that it's apples/oranges when talking about pay.
