True story of players being cut

There was a guy from up here(UET/SWVA) some years back who won a scholly .He was fantastic in high school but supposedly to small to draw college attention. I don't believe he made it to the pros or was cut early but he was a dynamo. Maybe someone up here will remember him. I believe it was the early/mid 90's.

Teddy Gaines? Dobyns-Bennett

I doubt he's decided to hold the walk-ons to a standard the rest of the team isn't going to be expected to meet.

Got to know Teddy this past season when he was coaching at UTC....Very nice guy. He played in Canada for a while after UT.

With the new coaching staff in place both he and Spencer Riley found themselves out of a job.

Riley was one of my favorites. I'll never forget the Syracuse game in '98 when he snapped the ball before Tee was ready and he didn't take it, so Riley just pulls it back and started streaking down the middle of the field - amidst a snowstorm of flags raining down all around him. He was like 20 - 30 yards away before he finally stopped, and even then, he was cradling the ball like a RB, ready to take on defenders.

I also liked it when he went to Tempe that same year (can't remember if it was before or after the game) and basically refused to talk to ESPN, saying that he hated them or something along those lines - I do remember there was an explitive in there somewhere or other, too.

That's him, that's him. Do you have any idea what happened to him. I only remember in high school he said he was always a TN fan and that was the school of his choice. He went for the education and "walked right in".

My appreciation and admiration of Gaines came because he wanted to go to UT. He turned downed schollies from lesser schools and walked on. Even if he hadn't played football he was there for the education.I respect him even though D-B owned my alma mater LOL.

Sorry to hear about that..Youll find plenty of walkons that that are capable of running that type of sprint drill in that time frame

NOT

Got a feeling that you got caught up in his trying to show his big balls off and will back down eventually, maybe when we run out of practice players this spring~~

As a matter of fact, When I was in High School in K'ville (80-82)...our summer football camps were led by members of the UT squad and for in-state prospects only (Coach M got into a little trouble for that...). The camps were designed around fundamental skill sets and drills that prepared you for the same type of try out. It was gruelling...

welcome to the board
I was in Knoxville then
West High School
