Coaches move, that is normal. They are usually fired, find a better job or retire. It seems odd to me that two UGA coaches up and resign now. I wonder if there are problems afoot inside the UGA program? I'll keep my fingers crossed. Go Vols!

Cochran is a premier S&C coach. For him to “resign” must mean the grind working with KS got too much.

it did say he took some time off in 2022 to deal with mental health issues. hopefully that isn't rearing its head again.

seems like the grass isn't always greener, being an on-the-field coach has to be more stressful than being the S&C.

That press release is written like they were allowed to resign (i.e., if they didn't resign they were going to be fired). You don't just leave a job like that to "pursue other opportunities." They were fired.

Cochran has had an interesting career and personal arc the last several years. He took a leave of absence due to alcohol issues a couple years ago, and when he came back he was in a different role. He left Alabama because he wanted to move on from S&C and be an on field coach, but Saban didn't let him. Supposedly led to tension between them. Hopefully it isn't related to his personal issues.

He's had prior drug and alcohol issues and went on a leave of absence with them once before. He posted his 1 or 2 year AA chip on Twitter a while back. I wouldn't be surprised if it's related to a relapse of that somehow.

I think with all the portal and NIL crap, you are gonna see things like this happen much more frequently.

You still don't leave a job like that on your own without another lined up. Those dudes were fired; you can tell from how the press release is worded.

I do agree that you're going to see more college coaches leaving for what seem like lesser jobs though, especially coaches whose job security is questionable to begin with.

Maybe he just doesn’t want to coach anymore? Who knows?

Then they probably would have said that in the release. "Stepping away from coaching" or something like that. "We wish him luck as he pursues other opportunities" is probably the world's oldest euphemism for getting fired.
Dont know how true it is but I looked at a UGA message board and multiple people referenced he has had some health issues including some mental health problems.

Sorry to rain on your parade but Darrell Dickey had on off-the-field role at Georgia as an analyst (salary=70K), he used to be OC at Texas A&M (salary=850K). 12X pay cut - of course he's moving on!

Scott Cochran was a Strength & Conditioning coach at Bama but wanted an on field role, so Kirby brought him on to coach Special Teams as a favor to a friend. He's had a known battle with alcohol and missed a lot of time, Muschamp was covering for him most of that time. Not sure if he relapsed, or other reasons for his departure.

So, an off field analyst and a first-time Special Teams coach depart... Oh, how will the program ever survive?

As long as Kirby is the coach, Georgia will be a frontrunner for the National title every year.

He had an alcohol problem and stepped away a couple years ago. Came back, but not as ST Coordinator. Role was never really defined, now he's gone. Just a weird situation.

So what's the story on Dickey quitting (or being allowed to quit)? I think we've done poor Cochrane to death.

Dickey was an offensive analyst at Georgia making 70K/year. (not even an on-field coach)

He's a former OC who made 850K/yr at Texas A&M, Georgia was just pit stop.
