A trophy ceremony after the game? That was lame. A marketing gimmick. I'm not sure whose idea it was--but you don't give out a trophy for a regular season game or because the crowd was the biggest ever. If I'm the coaches, I would not want to participate, but I'm sure Jones had no choice. Or maybe he enjoyed it!

I can see maybe talking to the winning coach on a field stage after the game or giving plaques to both athletic departments to commemorate the crowd, but trophies are for athletic championships--or should be--not crowd size.

Chill out bud. They do this for several opening games, & this was obviously a special game. Not sure why it would bother anyone, especially after a big win. Just enjoy it for goodness sake.

I tend to agree with this however the players seemed to really enjoy the post-game celebration and afterall, that's what really matters.

Hopefully the rest of the team realizes this too.

I also don't think winning the Battle of Bristol warrants a trophy, a ceremony, and all that hoopla. It was clearly nothing but a marketing ploy for the sponsor and the venue. But, since the Vols were the recipients, I'll try to think of it as a harbinger of things to come this season.

We used to play KY and the winner got a beer barrel. Bet you didn't like that either.

Agreed, like participation trophies, although taken in context, the entire game was a marketing tool for NCAA, NASCAR, and even USA with all the faux patriotism. Oh, and it worked.

The ads on the fans cards was laughably egregious
