Not sure, but it's hard to run the ball if the O-line is not getting the job done up front...know what I mean?

Chavis doesn't like Trooper and his cheerleading style. Also, Trooper wanted to call the plays after Sanders stepped down, but Fulmer let him know right away that wasn't going to happen. Apparently they feel that Trooper doesn't have the experience to be the OC. Trooper is actively seeking a new job.

That will be okay...there are things I like about Trooper, but if we get the right people in, we'll be more than okay with the young stable of running backs we have!

Before the FSU-UF game.. a "Cutcliffe Insider" said that on Monday Cutcliffe would announce that he's coming back to TN as OC with a multiyear contract.. and that the only way he'll agree to be OC, is if he gets to ring his own coaches..

I personally like Taylor.. Houston, and Riggs just danced around in the backfield before Taylor took over.. then they started hitting the holes and running the dang ball..

If it's true that Chavis doesn't like his "cheerleading style", then Chavis is an idiot that's just as clueless about the the mental inspiration our team is lacking as his HC.

If Fulmer lets Trooper go, then it's evidence that I was wrong about waiting to see who he gets as OC before giving up on him and he truly is a lost cause

I have no idea what the deal is. I think it's more of a workplace issue than an X's and O's thing.

I liked Trooper's enthusiasm, too. He seemed like a really good guy...and our running backs seems to like him, too.

My history teacher's son does the majority of the recruiting at UT...and from what he's told me, he seems to really like Trooper.

So, I can't figure it out, either. I wish he'd stay. It's nice seeing someone on the sidelines with some enthusiasm.

i think i would get rid of chavis before i got rid of taylor. defense looked good first part of the year, forgot how to tackle the second. taylor is probably the best assistant on the staff. doesn't make any sense so fulmer will probably can him.

Right...

Taylor is a good cheerleader, and seems to get alot out of his backs, but he's replaceable.

No way in hell would we need to keep him over Chavis. That's just dumb.

I respect your opinion, but I'm just not seeing that.

what are you guys talking about. your assistant chavis, is going to tell the head coach who to pick. this is what is wrong with tennessee football. it is the reason the program will not be turned around as long as fulmer is coach. it is the exact reason CUT should not be hired. chavis is an assistant he is not paid to get along with everybody he is paid to coach the defense. so you have a coach who has done a good job with the runningbacks and you are going to cut him loose because your DC doesn't like him, that is BS. it proves my point fulmer needs to go, he's the head coach the least he could do is like one. i guess before fulmer hires an assistant he better let the rest of the coaching staff interview the canidate, to see if they approve. what a joke. i'm sorry guys i do not agree at all. if chavis is the one that has the problem he should be relieved of his duties. there are plenty of DC'S out there that are as good or better than chavis that know how to keep there mouth shut.

If it wasn't for Chavis defense we would have been 1-10 this year. Our defense has been the only consistently good facet of our team the past 7 years.

For the record, I like Trooper. His biggest asset IMO is his enthusiasm - which is very important. But our RBs haven't lit the world on fire under him. Maybe its him, maybe its the O-line, but Chavis is a much bigger asset to the program that Trooper.

we had two 1,000 yard rushers last year. does anybody have some stats on chavis since 98. i could be mistaken, but i'm pretty sure our defense's haven't been all that impressive. i'm not really arguing though that he is a good coach. what i'm saying is when you start letting your assistants start picking your coaches you have problems. tennessee has problems and it all starts with fulmer if this is true.

Chavis is not just another assistant though . . . He's the Asst Head Coach. It makes sense that part of his job would be to have input into coaching personnel decisions.

but to let him choose who comes or go's that is crazy. it is the root of tennessee's problem. tennessee need's new blood, but it will never happen on fulmer's watch. if he can't get it done with the good ole boy's he's not going to get it done. that is the reason i think he will be terminated next year. he is the coach there are 2.5 million reasons why he should make the choices, and right now i think he is terribly overpaid. i lose more faith in fulmer by the day.

If there is a silver lining in all of this it is that CPF, Chavis and now Cut will clean out their support staff closets and restock the shelves this year. If we have another year like this one they might just be cleaning out their closets..period. In other words, they most likely have one more year to get this team on track or the 3 headed monster will fall. Trooper didn't fit in b/c it's a lot like getting a job at Alcoa...your Dad's Dad's Dad had to have worked there and everyone since then and be a good ole boy. Trooper had to have rubbed someone the wrong way or refused to get under someone's desk.

I think we've been top 20 stopping the run every year, top 5 a couple of times (including this year  ) and ranked highly in yardage and points allowed as well. And like GAVOL said, he's Assistant Head Coach, and partly responsible for personnel decisions.

i'm sorry guys i still disagree. the first new blood you bring in and you run him out of knoxville. it spell's doom for tennessee next year. it is true to, that tennessee usually has a great run defense, but our pass defense usually isn't very good.
