What do you think? Here is my idea lets give Fulmer 2-4 more years no matter what his record is and let him retire gracefully, then Bring in Trooper. High energy, great recruiting, great motivating factor, done great at every other position he has coached, already sent a few to the NFL, and more than anything else the guys respect him. Thoughts?

He has already had offers from elsewhere, an assistant job at Texas declined the year that VY won the NC. And some smaller schools have already tried to contact him for HC jobs or was that a coordinator job can't remember.

Because he turned down a latteral move to tx and has been contacted by smaller schools we should promote him. That pretty irrational. I need for him to show me something more than chest bumps. I like the guy, but I want to see some good coaching - he has a chance this season to show me something.

Jeeez dude, I heard you the first time... But what about every position the guy touched has done nothing but improved, I agree that this year will be a challenge but the change from 2005 WR to 2006 WR was amazing. The routes were more crisp and I know Ainge improved too but how much of Ainge's improvements were due to better WR's. This year will tell alot

So he did a great job with the wideouts last year...excellent...perhaps he could soon warrant some consideration as an OC...pimping him for a head coaching position at a powerhouse football program is a bit premature.

Maybe he should call at least 1 play before becoming HC? I like what he's done so far but that's a huge step.

Yeah, he made the WRs play like WRs. The WRs in 2005 were undisciplined and uncoached.

He came in and took very talented guys first at RB then at WR and had them play to their ability. This year will be a his first position coaching test at UT in my opinion.

OMG no. no, no, and then no again. i will now once again retreat away from the main forum until football season begins.

He's got to be a coordinator first for awhile before you can even talk about it seriously. He seems to be doing a good job, but I just don't know if the timing will work out, assuming that Fulmer is around for no more than a few years no matter what happens.

Unless Cutcliffe takes a job somewhere else first in the next couple of years, Taylor will probably need to move on somewhere else to get a job as coordinator. And then who knows if he ever ends up back at UT?

im totally for this, i mean i dont believe he should get it right away but i believe with atleast 2 years as a offenese or defense coordinator we could see how good he does and then determine whether he should become head coach or not.. i just think the game has outgrown Fulmer and that it's time for a change.. H3ll we got a high energy bball coach which has worked out for us, y not try the same thing for football in the years to come

I think cpf will be around for a while. I think in the distant future our coach will be PM there I'VE said what I have thought for a long time.

If Phil survives this season expect to see Trooper gone soon. No one who can challenge for hfc duties can long survive on this staff.

'Billy, you are not really buying into this Trooper HC stuff are you......
Not really, but if it was Troop or Phil I'd be willing to risk it. If the Vols can either win the division or have 10 regular season wins, and if the receiving corps performs adequately, then I think Troop will get some D1-A offers as a coordinator if not a HC spot. I suppose it's possible that Cut might get some offers this year and then Troop could be eleveated to OC, if he even wants that job. Otherwise, I don't see how Taylor can advance any further in the seniority-based system that is at work in K-town.

I consider that to be a fair and accurate assessment.

Ainge's improvements were from working with Cutcliffe. Trooper's not ready for a head coach until he's filled an Offensive Coordinator role.

No surprise there...:)

Win count aside, I think there will be Coordinator offers in any account. I also think that while I'd hate to see him go, he should take one. Trooper has a bright future, but he needs at least three more years with some real responsibilities before tackling a top job.

I suppose it's possible that Cut might get some offers this year and then Troop could be eleveated to OC, if he even wants that job.

I really think Phil will remain for one season beyond this next one and then retire. I think Cut will stick by him too. Then Cut moves on, because he will not be the next leader of Volunteer football.

I don't see how Taylor can advance any further in the seniority-based system that is at work in K-town.

I hear this critique so much. And while you didn't roll off negative on it at all, there has been so much stability that I honestly don't know how to gauge it's voracity.

All in all, well thought out though...

WELL DAMN ! What more do you need to see ? The receiving corps from last year speak for themselves. The runningbacks the year before speaks as well.

Like others have said, calling a play, or hey, even a series of plays, would be a nice start.
