These young men need or someone to rally around. When the OL has a tough RB who will fight for yardage it gives them extra emphasis in run blocking and brings them together as a cohesive unit.

In an otherwise disappointing Week 1 loss for the Tennessee Volunteers, sophomore RB Tim Jordan broke out in a big way, running for 118 yards on 20 carries and scoring a touchdown.

Jordan’s big day has been celebrated by his teammates, including star OL Trey Smith, who said he was inspired by the running back’s performance.

[. . .]

ā€œIt fires me up,ā€ Smith said. ā€œIt also inspires me to be better. There are a lot of times I need to be more violent, finish more. Seeing Tim throw that arm, that extra step at the end, it fires me up. It tells me I need to do my job better, too.ā€

Why? He was going to play somewhere last season. And if he hadn't played for Butch then he wouldn't be here now. So, I'm kind of glad he wasted 1 year under Butch.

I meant he didn’t get the proper coaching he deserved when he first stepped on campus.

You mean Gillespie? Heard he was pretty good...at least compared to Weinke. Maybe RB’s aren’t an inordinately technical position group.
