Lott's very entrenched with the ones who have been there a while. The only reason he was bumped is that the WH was really pushing hard for minority outreach then he sprung his we support Dixiecrats comment.
I'm curious as to how those pushing for minority outreach still are feeling about this move.
Whips are pretty shady types. They're aggressive and know how to 'whip' people in line. Alexander doesn't strike me as one who could herd sheep much less 48 other Senators.
This is just my opinion, but I could picture Frist going into someone's office, shutting the door behind himself, picking up a paperweight and bashing some poor sap upside the head. I cannot picture Lamar doing that.

Spin, I think that whole "Party of Inclusiveness" thing pretty much went flying into the back alley dumpster right after the Republican National Convention...

I'm not well enough versed to discuss line item policy with the fine folks who make these pages their constant abode. As a result I'll only speak in terms of general impression.
My own impression is that the line sounded spectacular at the convention, and most likely swayed a great many votes. I don't believe though that GOP leadership went running out after the election to make the rhetoric into viable policy.
I've no idea what intentions were, but a whole lot of voters just announced to everyone in the beltway that they don't think their government(a GOP dominant government) spent nearly enough time on including them in their policies.
Just my perception. But as some may have heard me say before, perceptions are votes.

so you're saying that Zell was off his medication? hmmm... didn't Limbaugh generate a lot of criticism recently over similar, though no less insensitive sounding, comments about Marty McFly?
Any loss by Lamar Alexander is a good one. The man has hit the trifecta. Worst governor, worst university president, and worst senator. Very impressive.
