We are heading up to Athens Friday afternoon. Where’s everyone staying? We are LATE to booking something and it looks like we are going to pay an arm and a leg. Does anyone have any insight on places that aren’t so crazy?

The James Madison Inn, in Madison, GA. You'll be in my hood then! I wish I was going. I've been to the last three Tenn wins at Sanford Stadium! Never went when we lost. The Dobb-Nail to Jennings was right in front of me. Be prepared to be barked at and harassed. GA has some great fans and some jerks mixed in.

Never been to Athens for a game but have a ton of UGAly friends since I've lived in Georgia for 42 years. I've heard it is a terrible place for visiting fans, but I'd still love to go. My son will be there working concessions to fundraise for his college baseball team about 30 minutes north of there. He isn't looking forward to that one.

Have fun in the Athens south area not Athens of the Greece country.

I expect you’ll be welcomed by UG Dawgs fans even though visibly they’ll see you are a UT Vols football fan.

Check Commerce, GA and Winder, GA. Not too bad of drives to UGA. I live about 5 minutes from UGA and if you try to even stay around here, you're going to pay. Commerce and Winder are for sure your best bets.

I've been to many away games (KY, FL, SC, UGA, Mizzou, Vandy lol). The only place I thought fans were rude was Athens.

We've stayed in Helen many times for this game starting back in the early 90s. Great little Bavarian style town. I've never had anything but a great experience in UGA, in 96 or 98 they were shaking our hands saying good game as they left in the 3rd qtr.

Sounds like you need to make it there… just saying 😂

If you don’t mind driving awhile after the game, there are a TON of hotels around Commerce.

Traffic will be bad, but you’ll be in a great mood listening to the Dawg fans whine on the UGA sports network radio….

Pro Tip: When the frat boys bark at you, just smile and say “good luck” …. Then they’ll look confused, realize you are a human being (and not a UF fan who would yell FU back at them), and offer you a beverage and tailgate food…..

Any Vol fan attending games in Athens or Gainesville are brave fans. If we win have protective gear to put on.
My wife and I went to the last game in 2022. 99% of fans were super cool. The only jerk was the guy sitting next to my wife, ironically. The family sitting next to me was Gaston Moores Parents and Uncle. Super nice family. The uncle was even a UGA grad wearing his UGA shirt haha.

Cool story. We went to a tailgate right behind the stadium where all the corporate tents are and where the UGA students get their tickets. We were apparently the first UT fans seen that day and we got barked at by thousands of students. It was epic! It made for some cool beer cooler conversation with all the UGA fans at the tailgate.

If you want to stay in downtown Athens, in my opinion, the best places are Springhill Suites, Hyatt Place, and Hotel Indigo. The SpringHill Suites is only a couple years old and it’s really nice, so that would be my pick. Easy walk to the stadium and to all the restaurants downtown.

If you don’t mind driving a bit about 19-20 miles north is commerce ga, decently priced hotels for next weekend. Pretty much a straight shot down 441 from there to Athens, also Winder, Jefferson and watkinsville are all nearby areas to look.
Was gonna say commerce, plus they have a Krispy Kreme 😆

Lordy mercy, I thought I had it bad at about 45 miles away😆. If we win next week, I'll drive down, and we can tear their goal posts down 😆

If one is coming from the East Tennessee area, would Madison be a little bit out of the way?

It's an extra 30-40 minute drive south, but not a bad drive down 441. Watch out for the ever-present Madison PD and their radar, especially on the bypass. Crowe's Barbecue there is pretty good eating as well.

Beating them this year will be even tougher because I think Old Miss will upset them today and they'll be playing mad when we get them.
