Transfers?

Didn't see this posted anywhere else, but it looks like Low is getting in on the action of suggesting a QB may transfer.

Some things I didn't think I'd see this spring ... - SEC - ESPN

3. The starting quarterback situation at Tennessee clearing up: Jonathan Crompton has the lead, but B.J. Coleman came on strong at the end of spring. Here's betting they both play in 2009. Nick Stephens is also in the equation. The real question: Will all three still be wearing orange next fall?"

I'm certainly hoping none of them leave, though...we really need all of our options in tact this fall...hopefully somebody can step up and manage the game for us.

No, he was not aware of any conversations that any of them have had with the staff. He said it was just somethings he heard in situations when the team was together (i.e. locker room, weight room, etc)

if kids want to leave, CLK will not stand in thier way at all. he doesn't want anyone who even thinks they don't want to be there. I heard PB wanted to come back (don't know if true or not) but it hasn't happened. You quit, bye.

That would suck if Paige leaves. Did he progress any this spring after hitting the wall in that scrimmage?

Why exactly would that suck? Do you think he looks great in his uniform standing on the sideline or something? Paige hasn't done jack, and if he leaves he won't be missed.

Agreed Larry.

If Kiffin is hesistant about BJ simply bc he wants to go get his "prize recruit", then I will immediately lose respect for him, and start having some concerns.

I understand your point. I just think some players develop more slowly than others. I think Paige still has time and enough potential to contribute in Kiffin's system. However, if he doesn't want to be part of the program, then it's better that both parties part and move along.

I just haven't seen anything from BJ that blows me away. I think a lot of the sentiment for BJ is that he's not Crompton. If Crompton and BJ are roughly equal, then give Crompton a chance given he's a fifth year senior. The other benefit is that it keeps the position clear for a top Freshman. If BJ or Nick clearly pulls away then start one of them.

My point is that I hope Kiffins recruiting agenda has ZERO influence on who starts.

the last thing we need is a Qb to leave. You do not want to go into a season with only 2 Qbs. I just don't see him transferring and Kiffin is not holding him back due to any recruiting agenda. I think Kiffin was hoping Crompton would pull away due to his height and arm strength, but Coleman is right in the thick of it. I tend to think if Stephens doesn't get hurt before spring he would have took the top spot. He looks like he really hit the weight room before the injury to get stronger.

Stephens looks the same to me

Let's break down the players mentioned....

1. Anthony Anderson - Isn't SEC material, but would do good in a smaller conference like C-USA or MAC.

2. William Brimfield - Hasn't been healthy the entire time he has been here at UT. I don't think he has ever practiced more than 2 in a row without injury. Not being mean, but he wouldn't be missed.

3. Ahmad Paige - He has speed, but he's skinny as a rail and gets jammed easily. One of the guys that Rivals probably hyped a bit too much. Speed can only get you so far.

4. BJ Coleman - This rumor started once Cut left for Duke. If he was going to leave, he would have left when Cut did so he could have been ready to play this year. He has also had good performances in the scrimmages and is bringing himself closer to Crompton to start.

I agree with you totally on 3 of 4 players. Except, I have a difference in opinion on Ahmad. He is no smaller than Nuke. I am not sure about his strength. But, there may be other issues there.

Speed can take you a lot of places. If, you are smart enough to grasp the entire offense, have the desire and determination, have a great work ethic, and have great hands to go with the speed. You can be a successful SEC WR.

Even a player who isn't as physical as others can be taught to keep from being jammed. There are ways to keep the defenders hands off of you instead of bulldogging. Coach Wilson will tell you the same.

Yeah...I think he means speed by itself because most people don't believe that Paige has all of those things

If Coleman left, it would be because he didn't have much of a chance of playing anyway. Most of these people that transfer aren't big losses because the reason for them transferring is that they are not that important to our team in the first place. That said, I don't see Coleman transferring at all. Right now, he has a good shot at the starting job at Tennessee. With Bryce Brown behind him. Why leave?

Where would Stephens go? FCS?
I think it would be best for us to have 3 on the roster this fall...understandable though if one of them decides that isn't in their best interest. Obviously Crompton isn't transferring, and highly doubtful for Coleman, so where does that leave Stephens? I think he sticks around and keeps working in hopes that his chance comes.

BESIDES, say we don't get the stud QB we are hoping for in this class...we may be looking at Coleman or Stephens starting Fall of 2010. But hopefully not for too long while they can coach up whoever we sign.

Right... and they need to pull away based on stats posted with the 1st unit against the 1st D.

People keep acting as if what they've seen is a fair comparison. As far as I know, BJ may be far and away the best one... but you can't draw that conclusion by comparing how he plays against the 2nd D to the way JC plays against the 1st D.

I know people have their own reasons for being biased against Crompton but so far it seems that Kiffin trusts him the most.

Ahmad has two BIG problems. One is, since he has arrived in Knoxville he hasn't been able to get off the line. If a strong breeze hits him he gets jammed. Nothing against the kid, but he just isn't physical enough to play receiver in the SEC and if he has all the speed that people say he does he could return kicks. That brings me to his second problem which is a mental one. He hasn't been able to completely focus his efforts since he has been here. It's just something that some kids can do and other have trouble doing and it happens on every team. Ahmad probably won't get to play very much and honestly I can see him as a casualty of the team

Sawtelle just left the team today, and rumor mill has BJ going to UTC (heard his Dad went there), don't know the facts. Reported he met with CLK and CDR about not getting a fair shake at the starting job during Spring drills. Hope it's all rumors because I think he has a chance to be good.
