Trae Golden All-ACC Academic Team

So Trae is a better passer, shoots a higher percentage from the field and the three point line. Turns is over 1 more time per game but easily makes up for it with more points on fewer shots and providing more points for his teammates. On defense, both are poor.

Your stats are full of holes...
-Barton shoots a better 3-point%. (34.2% to 31.5%)
-Golden has taken 69 more shots than Barton. (269 to 200)
-Assist/TO ratio: Barton- 2.1/.9 Golden- 2.9/2.2

They both have their shortcomings, and Barton has not shot as well this year as he did at Memphis. All that said, after watching basketball for years, I can use my eyes to determine who is a better player for the team. I was tired of seeing Trae get beat repeatedly on defense and then making the lazy pass (or even no pass) in transition. I thought Barton would have played a little better, but this argument is ridiculous, and the "Trae is better" crowd has no proof that we would have performed any better this year.

Trae performed better while a Vol in every single statistical category except turnovers than Barton did this season. With Mayman and Stokes in the line-up two years ago, Trae put up second team All-SEC numbers.

I also just looked at box scores of teams we've played twice this year. We've pretty much been lit up by Auburn's freshman PG, Vandy's PG, A&M's PG, Florida's PG, Xavier's freshman PG etc etc. Even when we blew out Xavier, Vandy and Auburn the PG position still played extremely well against us.

You can carry that over to almost every game we've played. The opponents PG had very good games against us all year long, even when we win and a surprising number of them were freshmen.

You are misinformed. Denson at Auburn and Fuller at Vandy are seniors. Their teams have no other players, so they have to score. Denson averages 20 points a game, against everyone. Semaj Christon at Xavier is a sophomore and an NBA talent. Wilbekin is a senior and will be first team all SEC.

Part of it is coaching. Martin should have used a zone in a few games, but all of the guys you mentioned are not freshmen and have to produce because their teams don't have anyone else.

Oh really?

I think we are 2nd or 3rd in scoring D in the SEC. People really think it would be that way with Trae guarding opposing pg's 30 minutes a game, plus doubling our pg's turnovers at the same time?
