I've figured out that both Best Buy and Game Stop will buy used consoles but I'm wondering which one would give me more?

My PS3 is still down (YLOD) and I'm trying to weigh my options. I highly doubt either one would give me much (if anything) if I tried to trade it in a non working state. So, if I had the local shop repair it for $50 what are the chances I could get @ $120 for trade in value? Maybe throw in a couple of games to raise it a little bit and then pay the difference for a new slim model? Can you haggle with these places? It would be nice to get $150 or so for trade in value (console and games) towards a new system.

I would imagine either one would be more likely to help since I would be buying a new system...just curious what you guys think.

Gamestop will rip you off. And i'm not sure about Best Buy. But gamestop will most likely rip you off unless they are having some kind of a promotion when you bring it in.

Trade your games into amazon.. Just dont take it to gamestop. If you got it fixed I may know someone who would buy it whose looking for a used one if you wanna sell instead of trade in

You can sell your consoles to
Amazon, not sure if they have to be in working order or not.

I would pay the 50 to get it fixed and put it on craigslist for 170. I know you are in the huntsville area and I have seen people wanting the older fat PS3's recently. Even saw one guy who was wanting to trade him good slim for a good fat

I sold my fatboy plus old games for $250 on eBay last summer. The originals are pretty popular.

As soon as I can figure out how to make this trade in work to my advantage. I may be borrowing a friend of mine's for a couple of weeks while he travels. So...maybe next week.

I kind of feel bad selling it to another gamer knowing that it has this YLOD issue. I wouldn't feel so bad selling it to a GameStop or Best Buy. Granted I can get it fixed, but it doesn't seem right selling it to some poor shmuck knowing they're going to have the same problems down the road.

I thought the fat ps3s were more prone to ylod. I has a hd go bad on my first but it was under warranty. They sent a new one & it ylod'd about 2 & a half years later. I wouldn't by any ps3 on craiglist because most are probably ylod riggers.

I'm pretty sure they are. What happens if I sell it on Craigslist and it YLOD's within weeks of them buying it? Do I have to give them their money back?

No, but I would disclose that you had the YLOD before, but it was professionally fixed.
