Look at these eleven losses:

2009 - Auburn, Boise st, LSU, Fresno St.
2008 - Kansas, Boise St.
2007 - CAL, Fresno St, Ole Miss, Boise St, and LSU.
Ive been looking for reasons to be totally behind DD and this makes me feel better about his 17-20 record at La Tech. I know his record has been beat to death, I just didnt realize how many far superior teams they actually played, bash me if you wish. GO Vols!

Fresno hasn't been anything to write home about since the middle of the '05 season. The fact Dooley wasn't better than them by his third year doesn't inspire much confidence from me.

Valid argument if you ask me.

yes he lost to Fresno in 2009 30-28. He beat them in 2008 38-35. From what people say they had severe injuries to deal with in 2009, I dont buy that excuse if you are a far superior team, but I dont think La Tech will ever be considered superior to Fresno.

Except that it's not all the losses he had.

I'm not bashing Dooley, but it's skewed. If Dooley had only lost OOC games against the SEC and took Boise to the wire, it would be better for the pro-Dooley crowd.

I dont know much about Hawaii Navy, or Army during those years. IMO they are teams that are going to be considered stronger than La Tech also.

Simply saying that his record wouldnt look as bad. Not excusing all the losses, just those 10 or 11.

I wasn't a fan of the hire, but you can pretty much throw his record at Loser Tech out the window. I don't think in the long run his time or record there will have any bearing on how he does here. Dooley's biggest obstacles is beating a couple of National Championship coaches that have a death grip on the conference and staying on par recruiting wise. He's a unknown, that's what's scary about it. Hamilton took another chance on this hire, he'll hang if this one goes bad.

Cant argue this.

One thing I have learned is most people will make a statement and then stick with it to the end no matter how much logic you use. According to them any good coach could have won all those games with 0 star recruits. I don't think people realize how big an accomplishment his record was at that school. Imagine Vandy beating those 111 teams and I promise you vandy would beat LA tech any day of the week.

The fact every coach the last twenty years at Tech had a similar or better record indicates it's not much of an accomplishment at all.

Did they play the same type competition? I doubt it, but dont know.. Im guessing you dont know this either, but you opt to be on the negative side.

Nothing inspires confidence in you so that's no surprise to anyone who frequents this forum.

i see what you're driving at but there's still some other things you have to consider.

in 2007 la tech had losses to nevada and hawaii on top of the ones you listed.

in 2008 they also had losses to army, nevada, and hawaii.

and in 2009 la tech also had losses to idaho, utah st, and was beaten by nevada for a 3rd consecutive year.

yes, several of the teams that beat them were alot better than they were.....but they also lost to teams that were nothing special and in some cases, somewhat inferior.

Brilliant post. Right in line with every other piece of intellectual dreck you've foisted on the readers here. Keep up the good work.

I wonder how fans would feel if UT had hired Gary Crowton or Jack Bicknell.
