Total War: Rome II

Looks amazing. The first one was the first TW game I played, I was instantly hooked. The medieval era total war games are my all time favorites. I still play Medieval II Kingdoms to this day. Can't wait for III. This game will hold me over though.

It's going to take a monster computer to be able to process the amount of detail plus thousands of soldiers on the screen at once.

I'm waiting for Europa Universalis IV
Total War games have much more re playability IMO. I like the EU games, but it becomes stale after a while. If you get bored on the campaign map of TW, you just siege a city and enter the battle map. It's also much more strategic. Plus the trait system keeps you on your toes. I can't count the times I've had a general become a disloyal lazy drunk.

There are a bunch of TW games all being in different eras. The newest (2011) being Shogun II which is set in 16th-century Japan. The first Rome was really good, but if you want to check out this type of game I suggest Total War: Medieval II Kingdoms Gold Edition , it can be found really cheap. It's not too demanding on PC hardware and still looks good for being a game released in 2006. Total War: Empire (18th century) and anything released after it takes a really demanding PC.

I didn't like the 1st total war game much, but I really did enjoy the Total War Rome game. just wished they had more settings. a really large empire because extremely hard to maintain. besides that, attacking or defending a fully upgraded castle was extremely fun.
