Coach Troop has done a heck of a job this year, and we have filled a lot of positions. Even if we don't compete for the national title this year, I believe Tennessee Football will be fun to watch for the next few seasons.
If everyone wanted to play for him, then how come Dwight Jones, Terrance Toliver, Ahmad Paige, Roderick Davis, Markish Jones, and any of the other WR we offered haven't already committed nationally?
You can't get everyone and apparently there were other things that brought these kids to other schools. Jones and Paige are not out of the question yet, and he did bing in a lot of big recruits this year.
I just checked and these are the guys he recruited.
Eric Berry-5*
Lennon Creer-4*
Nevin McKenzie-4*
Rolando Melancon-4*
Darnius Moore-3*
Gerald Williams-4*
All of thses guys are great talent. But he is not the recruiting coordinator. That is Matt Luke. And the reason I listed all of those guys is because you said "EVERYONE" wanted to play for him.
maybe I overstated when I said everyone, and matt luke may be the recruiting coordinator, but if you look at these kids, which are some of the best in the class, you will find that nearly every one of them said that they wanted to play for coach troop.
troop has done a good job, but his recruiting tactics are an extension of what Fulmer does in recruiting. the family atmosphere thing always comes up when these kids talk about the coaches, CPF included.
CPF gets referred to as the "father" type...and in the same though process, i often hear Troop referred to as an "older brother" type.
i think it bodes well for future recruiting that their styles match each other....the program has the perception of being consistent and stable.
regardless it is a great recruiting class, I think we filled every position that was crucial and if we can get everyone in we will be in fine shape. I am really excited to see nevin mckenzie and deangelo willingham play. I watched video of mckenzie and the guy hits like a freight train and can run with about anybody.
A couple days ago I thought that Jones would be a Vol. Now I think it is a very slim chance. I'm almost positive that Ahmad Paige will be a Vol as of tomorrow.
Paige will probably have to redshirt, just not big enough yet, but with the rest of our recievers I think we will be ok with that. Also I think briscoe and hancock could step up and shine this year and I would like to see them get the ball to Vinson and Oneal quite often, big play potential.
Rae Sykes will sign with UT, but go JUCO or Prep. Cory Hall is a DE out of Chattanooga. Very good physical talent. Grade issues. Probably ends up in JUCO or Prep.
