I would have to say that the best game I have attended was the Florida game in 2004. Second place would have to be the SECCG against Miss St. our National Championship season.

I can't remember who was #2 and #3, but I remember that by the time we left the hotel room, we knew that we just had to win that game to get into the NC game. I had my doubts for a while..

I know that's just two, I'll have to think about the rest.

UCLA and Kansas State were #s 2 and 3. Miami had taken care of UCLA and Brandon Stewart and A&M had taken down the Wildcats.

The answer depends on how you choose to define "best." Are you talking about entertainment value of game or do you mean "best" from the standpoint of what it meant to UT to win the game. Here are my lists under both those standards.

Entertainment Value

1) 1998 Florida. A game that had everything a spectator could want.
2) 2000 LSU. A gallant comeback falls just short.
3) 1987 Vanderbilt. UT digs itself out of a 28-3 hole and holds on to win.
4) 1995 Georgia. Jeff Hall, as a freshman, wins a classic at the end.
5) 2002 Arkansas. Six overtime roller coaster ride.

Significance

1) Fiesta Bowl FSU. National Champions, 'nuff said.
2) 1998 SEC Championship Game MSU. Prelude to Number 1.
3) 1985 Vanderbilt. The culmination of a magical run to the first SEC title in ages.
4) 1997 SEC Championsip Game. I give Manning hell, but it was nice to see him get an SEC title.
5) 1998 Florida. #s 1 and 2 don't occur without it.

2001 Florida - Simply unbelievable game, we traded blow for blow and beat Spurrier in his finale at home, crushing the gators hopes and dreams for a shot at the national title.

1998 Florida - Surreal environment, Neyland was at its finest at night. Cataclimistic win for the program.

And in no particular order...

1995 Georgia
2004 Florida
1996 Alabama

I always add this caveat when people talk about our loss to LSU in '01, so I'll also add it to Florida's loss to us for consistency's sake. Florida didn't lose a shot at the National Championship. They lost a chance to get the living h**l beaten out of them by Miami.

#1 1987 vs. Kentucky (the Higgs game where UK unsuccessfully ran the same play four times beginning with 1st and goal at the 2)
#2 1995 vs. Kentucky (Haskins TD run and Manning comeback)
#3 2003 vs. Marshall (good game)
#4 2005 vs. Vanderbilt (frustrating but entertaining)
#5 2005 vs. (tie) Florida, Notre Dame (for the atmospheres)

I see where you're coming from with that, but with all the psycology that goes into a game, you never know what could have happened with a different opponent. Different match-ups, different mistakes or lack thereof, different momentum changing plays...

But at the end of the day, other than the fact that we didn't win the SEC Championship, I was pretty happy with the way the 2001 season ended up waxing Michigan. Probably wouldn't have enjoyed the bowl game experience quite as much if we'd been playing miami.

Miami had soundly beaten the Gators in the Sugar Bowl the previous year. The result would have been no different in the Rose Bowl. I agree with you about UT's 2001 season. I would consider it a success.

I can't remember all the years but I'll give you the big players

UT over uf in the monsoon (Mose Phillips and Heath Shuler)
UT over uga in athens (Heath Shuler)
UT over auburn (Tony Robinson)
UT over arkansas 1998 (this game would be higher but we struggled most of the game)
UT over uf (45-3, Dale Carter)

Number 1, by far for me, was Arkansas '98.

'04 Georgia was also great because everyone at Sanford Stadium thought we didn't have a chance. Lets just say it was great to see some shocked faces.

All before that game me and my friends were getting yelled at by Georgia fans about how we shouldn't even be there and how they were going to blow us out.

After the game the sober Georgia fans were quiet, and the drunk ones wanted to fight. It was the greatest ride home ever!

1. Arkansas 98
2. Florida 98
3. Bama 96
4. Bama 98
5. LSU 01

I will never forget the Arkansas game in 98. I almost had given up hope, then Clint Sterner fumbled. I had never heard a crowd erupt like that in my life.

I still get chills thinking about it.

Florida in 2004 was pretty awesome. Everyone was really disappointed when Wilhoit missed the extra point. I figured it was over at that point. Glad it wasn't. Also, Chris Hannon dropped like 73 passes in that game, which was a good preview of the next season. But Tony Brown and Bret Smith made some clutch catches to pull it out. I had a buddy that actually caught Ainge's QB wrist sleeve when he threw it into the stands.

It's so hard to rank them for me but here are some of my favorites in no order.

95 bammer (and every year we have beaten bammer)
98 UF getting over the hump
98 Arky (how close we came to losing a game we had no business losing)
2005 LSU So few UT fans there and it was a Monday Night game. Awsome!
98 SECCG
98 Fiesta Bowl
85 Sugar Bowl Vinny and the boys thought they had it.
