Top 5 Plays Post 1980

JJ’s Hail Mary catch at UGA gotta be #1 or #2. Eric Berry putting Knoshow Moreno up in the cheap seats right there as well. #3 for me is again JJ turning the Gators vaunted CB Tabor into a piece of toast in a massive come from behind win over them. My #4 was our DB in a loss to the Tide at their house running with one of his peers into the end zone after a Vol pick 6 and giving their jeering snarling student section the one finger salute, was it Gaulden, memory a little fuzzy. #5 has to be the game opening TD pass from Manning to Peerless Price against the Tide. Too many great plays to narrow down to a top five imo.

Darrin Miller 98 yard "fumble" return against Iowa in 1987, with Terry McDaniel leading the way picking off would be tacklers the whole way.

Given that there were innumerable plays in 98 that if gone the wrong way we may not have won it all hard to place plays from other years above them.

1. stoerner fumble
2. Price 79 yd TD catch on 3rd & 9 against fsu
3. Leaverton tackling Warrick to save a touchdown
4. Pass interference call on 4th down extending the final drive against Syracuse.
5.Pass interference call on 4th down against Syracuse

So many more from 98. Goodrich pick 6, Jeff hall clutch kicks, gator kicker missing the fg in overtime, price td against Florida, Brysons TDs against Florida, FSU, etc.

FSU was a really good team without their star QB, for that matter. Tennessee was lucky - damn lucky - that Weinke was out for that game. Had he played, can't help but think FSU would have put 24-30 points on the board and probably won the title.

And while I agree FSU had a good team, I also think that game was a typical big game outing from Fulmer during that era. Come out playing tight as a drum, try not to lose, make a few big plays and lean on the talent on the defense to do the rest. We just got lucky FSU had nothing to work with at QB that game. Damn lucky.
Well that FSU second string QB was able to beat a very strong UF team.

Dude, I'd say you 'bout cover the best 5. Good work.

The only ones I'd consider adding was when Deon Grant intercepted a deep pass from UF - and/or - Chuck Webb's TD run against top-10 Ark in the Cotton Bowl for the win in Jan 1990 - and/or - Von Reeves (TE) pass to Alvin Harper for a TD against UF in a 45-3 blowout in 1990 - and/or - Jay Graham running for a TD against Ohio State in the Citrus Bowl
Sorry but it was Von Reeves to Carl Pickens for the TD. One of few trick plays that Johnnie ran that worked.

Maybe not a top 5 in terms of significance but one of the funnest plays was Bernard Daffney and the Fumblerooskie vs Miss State 1990.

I don't think I saw a single mention of a play from the Miracle at South Bend so I'm throwing the Floyd Miley gets wide play into the discussion.

The PI call was legit but even if Tennessee doesn't get it and loses that game but wins out, I still think we play in the Fiesta Bowl.

FSU got embarrassed in week 2 by NCSU and made it. An opening day road loss by a few points would not have kept Tennessee from playing for a national championship.

The interception Deon Grant made against Florida in 98 was one of the best INTs Ive ever seen and a huge play in that game.

Maybe not even top 10 but one of my favorites….When Lenard Little decleted Burgdorf causing Gene Stallings to have a meltdown. Think it was 95.

Wilhoit field goal against Florida probably deserves mention, as well as the field goal Florida missed. I know they are kicks, but only a handful of times in my life have such stakes ridden on the leg of a kick like those two.

I’d give them a healthy Chris Weinke for a healthy Jamal Lewis.

Not my concern that Bowden couldn’t get his Weinke up..

That was always the concern with Fulmer. Doing just enough to win every game but not doing everything he could have done to win each game.

Do you want your gadget plays to keep the defense honest or do you want them to maybe give you a score when you are desperate? Being conservative isn’t the only option.
