Are you talking strictly while they donned the orange and white, or players who came through and produced in both Knoxville and the pros?

Strictly who wore the Orange and White. I don't care if they played 1 play. In your opinion who are the top 5 defensive players who have played for UT in the past 25 years.

The play after UT doesn't matter.

There play at UT is all that matters.

Al Wilson, Reggie White, Eric Berry, Dale Jones, Jon Henderson. Only others I would consider would be Leonard Little or Dale Carter. First 3 are undisputed, Jones was the heart and soul of the Vols for many great years, Henderson was a dominant force. It depends on the criteria such as character and pro career included. No matter what the top 3 are set in stone.

Reggie was gone after 83. He doesn't qualify for this list.

Regardless, I agree wholeheartedly with Reggie being one of the best of all time.

Yeah just realized that, I am older than I thought, Thanks.

That being the case I would say Wilson, Berry, Henderson, Carter, and Jones. If you were around to witness 84, 85, then Jones would be on your list. He is not a pretty name because of no pro career, but he dominated for the Vols. I think Mayo had a good rookie year as a pro, but he was never a dominate force like he could have been for the Vols. Little was awesome to watch but made a lot of negative plays as well both on the field and his personal life.

Why do you put Al Wilson over EB. Not arguing just asking why.

Simply because he had less physical talent but made the most of it and truly inspired his teammates to raise their level of play to win the ultimate championship... which eb might suffer from because he doesnt have that same talent around him...

...but Wilson almost beat stopped Florida by himself.. 3 forced fumbles in a single game is unheard of, even in these uber-dominate SEC times

this is a great argument to have because there are so many good defensive players that have donned the orange and white.... nice thread

Hey, most you guys are leaving off Deon Grant and Jason Allen. You can't be serious.

My bad, I watch plenty of colege ball. He played when I was a very little kid. Therefore I dont remember watching him play. I just remember him as a great wr. Anyways, He may have been a good safety, but the 4th best defensive player in the past 25 years... Really?
