To be honest, if I was a big time coach, I wouldn't touch the Tennessee job with a 15 foot pole, if I wasn't a Knoxville native.

Best CFB coaching job in the nation is USC(the real one) by far. Easy conference, great university, gorgeous weather, and hot women. What more could you want?

Easy recruiting helps....

The only problem with your logic is, who wants to be the guy to follow pete?

There's no in-state recruiting base to speak of. Tennessee is a good job, a job with a lot of potential for the right guy, but it's not one of the 12 best jobs in the nation.

If you can't win at a place like Ohio State or Texas, you're in the wrong line of work. You can get beat in recruiting and even your down year will still be a top-20 class. But you can be a pretty good coach and get fired at Tennessee if you don't nail down enough out-of-state blue chip talent. UT has a Hall of Fame coach (Bowden Wyatt) and a future one (Phil Fulmer) who can attest to that.

I think Tennessee could possibly be in the top 12, maybe replacing Georgia.....but there really is no reason why Georgia shouldn't be competing for a NC every year, based on location, conference and high school talent. CMR is certainly lucky to still have this job, imo!

Just as an aside, in response to your user title, whatzittoya, the nazi's murdered millions of jews so I have no use for them. :) Other than that, welcome to the forum.

I'm really not suprised were not on the list. Little in state recruiting and pressure to win right away is tough.

I think Staples was talking about the jobs that come with the recruits already there. Just show up and coach. The top cushy job.
