I saw a story on Gale Sayers that prompted me to look at the all time rushing leaders in the NFL. I would have never guessed, but Tennessee has five players in the Top 100. The best I could see, we are at least tied with the most. Syracuse, Texas, Miami, and USC are in the mix.

Who would have thought ......

And might also be worth noting that of those 5, we had two of them on our team at the same time, twice -- Lewis and Henry, Stewart and Garner.

Will not be easy with the way the NFL blows through RB's, but Hurd has a good chance to put his name on this list and even challenge Lewis for best UT running back in NFL History. Hurd would then be the best back in school history and best UT RB in NFL history. I know I'm getting ahead of myself, but it's seems like a decent possibility if his durability holds up.

A good thread OP, thanks, lotsa food for thought! Regarding oblood's post, I know these two sets of our guys ran behind very good OLs, but if you are special in college and at the NFL level, you're special no doubt! Also sort of surprised it only takes 5600 career yards to crack the top 100. Earl Campbell only #34?!? Lots of surprises up and down this list!

I didn't know Frank Gore was ahead of AP. That shocked me a bit. I know AP missed a whole season but still would have never thought that Gore would be ahead in yards.

It would be six if you could slide a jr. behind Geral Rigg's name.

Good point. Plus, looking at Hurd his frame looks capable of handling another 10-15 too. IDK if he can retain his agility / speed. But dang, a 250-255# back that runs hard and has good agility and speed ... freak show. Earl Campbell was that way. Seemed like NYG had a good 250# RB about 5-10 yrs ago.

The frig, Chicago bears tackle, became a running back in one game and ran for one touch down, undoubtably the biggest and slowest running back

Gore was drafted in 2005 and Peterson in 2007. Add in Peterson's suspension, and Gore would currently have 3 more seasons worth of career yardage on Peterson.

I think you might be referring to Brandon Jacobs. He was a load for the Giants. Just couldn't really stay healthy.

More than one game...and he ran for :victory: that rookie season...and caught one for another.
