This is a combo of my favs and the best. Houston had all-american talent, but he could not help his team be much of anything. there is more to being a great player than just talent. Where are the titles? Did he help his teammates get better? Did he help with recruiting? None. No, and no. JMO

Dane just made his team better. He did not possess talent, but he was a basketball player. His last season, he played with a bad wrist. He still managed to produce. It was amazing, really.

JaJuan was a walk-on. Maybe the best walk-on for us ever.

Jordy isn't done yet. Let's see where he ends up. I am projecting really big things for him this season.

On talent alone, I would put Houston in at about 3 - 5. The title of this thread is Top 10 vols of all time. So, now what did he accomplish (team-wise)?

OK. Sure, but did he make a good team better?

Like I said, they are MY top 10 vols. You can put Childress on yours if you want to. I still say, without Bradshaw on the team, the results would have been vastly different.

With Houston, what was our best record? I have nothing against him, but what did he accomplish other than personal records?

You do realize that Houston was saddled with having his dad as his coach who was arguably the worst coach in the history of UT and the SEC don't you? Don't let that cloud your judgment.

Yes. I do realize that. Everybody played under different circumstances. I realize that; however, I left a lot of other talented players off my list, besides Houston. Yarbrough, McFadgon, Dale Ellis, Michael Jackson, to name a few.

Scoring a lot of points is one thing. Winning the big games, and helping your teammates be successful is another. Dale Ellis seemed to always be at odds with Coach Devoe. Michael Jackson was lucky to play on a team with superstars. He was often left wide open.

There were a lot of "lost seasons" from the ninetys, well into the 2000's. I just did not enjoy Tennessee basketball much during those years - and my list reflects that.

How can this list not contain Skylar McBee? I would put Steven Pearl in there too.

I don't necessarily blame a player for the failings of a coach though. After Houston left, you saw what kind of team we were without him. They won 5 freakin' games the next year and his dad finally got the ax. He basically carried them almost every game. He sure as hell didn't have his dad helping him out.

All points well-taken. I just think about guys like Michael Brooks. I am not sure he had much physical talent. He could miss shots all game long, but when it came crunch time, he would hardly miss. He seamed to always give us a chance to win.

Houston just seemed to pile up the points, but at the end of the game, we were still behind, and he didn't seem to care as much. He was just happy to have scored his average.

It has been a few years. Maybe I AM just blaming him for his dad's bad coaching, but it is hard to change how I feel about it at this point.

1. King - easy #1
2. Houston - best scorer in UT history (no offense to Lofton)
3. Grunfeld - easy choice
4. Ellis - cannot believe he is getting left off some lists
5. Lofton - best pure shooter in UT, and maybe SEC, history (if not Chris Jackson)
6. Justus - just going off what I heard - before my time.
7. Nix - underrated player
8. White - great guard
9. Haislip - very good college player; NBA flameout.
10a. Slay - SEC player of the year.
10b. Chism - very underrated player.
